Russia’s Deputy Defence Minister responsible for procurement, Yury Borisov, has revealed the Novosibirsk Aviation Plant (better known under its Russian-language abbreviation NAZ) will begin upgrade work on the Su-34 Fullback bomber, its main product in 2018. He also hinted the Su-34 has recently been cleared to employ new weapons but refused to give any details. Currently, the NAZ plant is busy fulfilling orders for building the Su-34. According to Borisov, during three consecutive years the plant delivered two additional aircraft, and this year has been contracted to deliver 14 Su-34s to the RuASF. Following this trend, the plant is expected to deliver as many as 16 aircraft in 2017. The current order for the Su-34 stands at 94 aircraft.
