A flight conducted by British Airways to London Heathrow was the first to depart under the new agreement with IAG. The contract covers ground handling needs for British Airways, Iberia and Vueling – including passenger services, ramp handling, baggage loading and pushback services.

Carsten Zuberbier, managing director of Swissport in Berlin, commented: “We are honoured by the trust placed in us by IAG and their airlines at our new base in Berlin. Our customers can rely on our quality services and the full dedication of our passenger service and ramp agents. As the first-choice partner for airlines around the world, Swissport supports the restart of aviation on the ground as the sector emerges from the COVID-19 pandemic.”

The arrangement begins with three flights for every weekend in March, then will increase to two daily flights from April 1.

Swissport currently also operate a modern air cargo warehouse at BER. Last year, the ground handling service tended to around one million passengers and handled approximately 7,400 tons of air cargo in the German capital.
