The first two Beechcraft TC-90 aircraft for the Philippine Navy arrived at Heracleo Alano at Sangley Point, Cavite City, near Manila on March 27.
Aircraft, serial numbers 6822 and 6824, are the first two of five former Japan Maritime Self Defense Force (JMSDF) training aircraft to be leased to the Philippines by the Japanese Government for maritime surveillance duties over disputed waters in the South China Sea. Japan announced the aircraft would be supplied to the Philippines in October 2016.
Philippine Navy pilots and maintenance personnel have undergone training with the JMSDF at Tokushima and local media sources say the remaining three aircraft will be delivered by the end of the year.
Vice Admiral Ronald Joseph Mercado, Philippine Navy Chief told reporters during the delivery ceremony: “The Philippine Navy is very excited about the addition of the TC-90s. These aircraft will perform critical roles in the mandates of the Philippine Navy, particularly maritime security and territorial defence.”
