Thranda Design has announced the DHC-2 Beaver has been upgraded to be compatible with X-Plane 12.

Part of Thranda's Dynamic Generation Series, the new version sports ten high-resolution liveries with revamped 8K textures, realistic PBR (Physically Based Rendering) materials and details such as true-to-life plate deformation and to-the-rivet precision. It can also be equipped with a regular undercarriage, tundra tyres, skis, floats and amphibious floats; a canoe can be transported on the amphibian and float versions.
The aircraft is designed to take full advantage of the physics in X-Plane 12. It features accurately simulated systems, including authentic flight dynamics and a realistic fuel system with tip tanks and a removable belly tank that realistically simulates weight, inertia and drag. Details such as an operational wobble pump, the ratcheting carb heat lever, the flap system and the primer are also accurately recreated.

The package sports six custom instrument panels and an option to create additional panels with more than 50 instruments, including a GNS430/530, an Aspen EFD 1000 or a RealityXP 650/GTN750. Custom paint schemes can also be created using a real-time livery editor with full PBR control and the ability to add metallic, matte or sandblasted effects. Additional details such as dirt, scratches and nicks are all adjustable in real time to dial in the desired amount of wear and tear.

A popup menu can be used to customise the realism settings for the engine and tail wheel (simplified vs realistic modes), a radial engine visualisation showcases the engine's inner workings, and a real-time primer and pre-heat logic indicates the correct priming range.
Other details include ground equipment such as a driveable tug, chocks, tie-downs and engine covers; aircraft start-up states such as 'All Systems Ready' or 'Cold-and-Dark' can be set via the popup menu and a weight and balance manager features a visual chart with control over individual passenger seat weights.

An advanced FMOD-based sound system features smooth transitions and atmospheric effects, including blade slapping. Individual buttons and switches in the cockpit have unique audio effects and engine sounds provide clues as to what's happening under the hood.
The Beaver can be updated automatically via the SkunkCrafts Updater. It is available on x-plane.org for $34.95 (approx £29).
