He wasn't expecting an invitation back, but nearly thirty-six years to the day since the iconic 1986 film Top Gun, Tom Cruise will return as Captain Pete 'Maverick' Mitchell in its sequel, Top Gun: Maverick; to be released in the UK and US on May 25 and 27 this year, respectively.
Introduced to his co-stars as their instructor, who is one of the finest pilots the US Navy's Fighter Weapons School, aka Top Gun, has ever produced, Maverick is assigned to a detachment of Top Gun graduates for a special mission. Top Gun: Maverick will see Val Kilmer reprise his role of Iceman; alongside new actors, Jennifer Connelly, Ed Harris, Jon Hamm and Miles Teller. In the film, Maverick is drawn into a confrontation with his own deepest fears, culminating in a mission that demands the ultimate sacrifice.
