Writing to The New Statesman after a screening of the feature film starring Richard Todd in 1955, Air Marshal Sir Robert Saundby complained that the concept of attacking the German dams had been “worked out by the Air Staff in 1938”. Barnes Wallis “invented the weapon […] but he did not originate the idea.”
