Leg 4 – Inverness to Out Skerries
Welcome to the fourth and final leg of our United Kingdom discovery tour, departing from Inverness to explore Scotland’s rugged highlands and remote island chains. On our journey, we’ll also visit two more bespoke airports from Asobo: first the famous beach runway at Barra and the lesser-known small community airstrip of Out Skerries in the far-flung Shetland Islands.

Today’s flight will cover a total distance of 480 miles, and while we have previously recommended the C152 as our aircraft of choice to explore the scenery at a low and slow pace, this time we suggest something with a little more horsepower. Several longer over-water stretches are also necessary today, so you might want to pick an aircraft equipped with an autopilot too. Your aircraft of choice also needs STOL (Short Take- Off and Landing) capabilities, with our final runway length a mere 315m long! In our experience, the Asobo Cessna 172, Diamond DA40 or Carenado Cessna 182 were best suited for this particular journey.
