UPDATE: MOD does U-turn on AW109SP

UPDATE: Since this story was written on December 5, 2023, the AW109SP, GZ100, has been seen on flight trackers a number of times with RAF callsigns, so is back in use with the air arm.

The UK MOD has done a U-turn on the use of the Leonardo AW109SP GrandNew helicopter.

The RAF’s 32 (The Royal) Squadron has flown a number of AW109s over the years, most recently GZ100 (formerly registered as G-ZIOO). The helicopter was provided under the MOD’s Rotary Wing Command Support Air Transport (RWCSAT) service contract with UK-based Sloane Helicopters and was used as a VIP transport for members of the Royal Family, government ministers and high-ranking military personnel.
