A Royal Air Force (RAF) Boeing E-3D Sentry AEW1 airborne early warning and control (AEW&C) aircraft has been sold to the US Navy for use as an in-flight trainer in support of the Boeing E-6B Mercury programme.
A US$15m firm-fixed-price contract for the purchase of the Sentry AEW1 was awarded to the UK Ministry of Defence’s (MOD’s) Defence Business Services Finance by US Naval Air Systems Command (NAVAIR) on June 30. Work on the deal will be performed in Lake Charles, Louisiana, with completion anticipated in September 2021.
