Ten US Marine Corps AV-8B Harriers IIs of VMA-223 arrived at Bodø Main Air Station in Norway on March 3 to participate in Exercise Cold Response 2022 (CR 22). The exercise is to run from March 14 to 31 for which the USMC has deployed a sizeable force to the Scandinavian country.
Organised by Norway, the NATO country has invited Alliance allies and partner nations to take part in the exercise which will involve around 220 aircraft, more than 50 vessels and 30,000 personnel from 27 nations.
Bodø is also hosting another USMC fast-jet squadron – ten F/A-18C/D Hornets from VMFA-312. Other US Marine Corps aircraft in Norway for CR 22 are KC-130J Hercules (including the Harvest Hawk variant modified to fire air-to-ground weapons), MV-22B Ospreys of VMA-261, AH-1Z Vipers and UH-1Y Venoms of HMLA-269; plus CH-53E Super Stallions from HMH-366.
