MilViz’s de Havilland DHC-3 Otter is up to the challenge!
It was only a matter of time before we’d return to the great state of Alaska in the United States. With an economy and infrastructure that relies heavily on regional air travel, Alaska is rife with challenging airports. The combination of geography, weather and not a small dose of ‘spirit of adventure’ can make hopping around the state an exciting affair. In this issue, we take a look at Valdez, a small fishing town in southern Alaska that features a major oil export terminal, diverse wildlife, glaciers and world-class backcountry skiing. Valdez also just so happens to be in an ideal operating area for the outstanding MilViz DHC-3 Otter reviewed earlier in this issue, so pack up your skis, fishing gear and a camera to go explore the airfield named in honour of Alaska’s trailblazing aviators – Valdez Pioneer Field.
