Dear PC Pilot
I am a dedicated ‘tube-liner’ pilot, having a Jetmax 737 and using Prepar3D v4.4, flying real routes in real-time with real weather. The numbers of people who are members of VATSIM and IVAO shows that we are quite a big part of the flight simulator community, as does the existence of the ‘study-sim’ level of aircraft from PMDG and Aerosoft to name just two. What is, I think, a common thread is the ever-increasing push for realism in our flying: 15,000 people took part in Navigraph’s recent survey. However, there is one area where attempts at greater realism are being frustrated by one legacy aspect of FSX and that is how Magnetic Variation (MagVar) is used and, more importantly, updated. MagVar is used in three ways in flight sims - I am referring to P3D here and it’s legacy forebears.
