Vertical Aerospace VX4: the eVTOL with $5bn in pre-orders

The first maiden flight of a brand new UK-designed and built aircraft in more than two decades took place in September. Mark Broadbent reports on a major milestone for eVTOL experts Vertical Aerospace and its VX4

Electric vertical take-off and landing (eVTOL) aircraft, more informally dubbed air taxis, flying above city centres are some way from becoming an everyday reality – but advanced air mobility (AAM, also known as urban air mobility) has moved forward in recent years.

Billions of dollars have been invested via venture capital funding and stock exchange listings into start-up developers such as Archer, Eve, Jaunt, Joby, Lilium, Vertical, Volocopter and Wisk. All promise their often-quirky looking aircraft will open up new and innovative ways of transporting people and cargo.
