Vietnam’s first L-39NG jet trainers now ready for delivery

Aero Vodochody formally rolled out the first of 12 L-39NG advanced jet trainers for the Vietnam People’s Air Force (VPAF) in the Czech Republic on August 7.

The L-39NG (serial 2303) was resplendent in a striking two-tone green camouflage – similar to that worn by the VPAF’s existing L-39C Albatros fleet – with Aero stating that this initial advanced jet trainer will soon be delivered. The Vietnamese Ministry of Defence (MOD) inked a contract with Omnipol for the supply of 12 L-39NGs in February 2021, which are scheduled to be delivered between 2023-2024. The deal also included a training package, an initial batch of spare/repair parts, support services and ground support equipment.
