A view to thrill: glaciers galore!

A scenic flight amid spectacular scenery is an adventure in itself – add a landing on an active glacier into the mix and you've the ultimate aviation adrenaline rush. Andreas Rohde travels to Alaska to join Talkeetna Air Taxi in the Arctic wonderland of Denali National Park

A pair of de Havilland Canada DHC-3Ts from Talkeetna Air Taxi sit on the majestic Ruth Glacier – located 5,000ft above sea level

Our progress feels painstakingly slow, but eventually the heavily laden de Havilland Canada DHC-3T Turbo Otter climbs above the everrising terrain as we make our way northwest. The scenery changes dramatically in just a few short minutes as the green of the lower river flatlands gives way first to the speckled grey of bare, exposed rocks and then the blinding white glare of eternal glacial ice.
