Welcome to Wonderboom

For many years, the airport closest to Pretoria had no scheduled air services, but Wonderboom National is now experiencing a renaissance. Sebastian Schmitz reports from South Africa’s legislative capital

Pretoria is a mere 32 miles (51km) from the nation’s busiest air gateway, O R Tambo International, and Johannesburg has always been the centre of the country’s commerce. So, it is perhaps unsurprising that Pretoria’s own airport, Wonderboom National (PRY), has enjoyed little in the way of air services.

Breitling recently bought Convair 440 ZS-BRV (c/n 215) from Rovos Air. It will be ferried to Europe this summer and will be operated in Swissair colours
