Meet Elizabeth ‘Elsie’ MacGill, the woman who battled sexism and polio in order to become an engineer, businesswoman… and the first female aviation engineer in the world

In 1929, a young woman named Elizabeth ‘Elsie’ MacGill made her mark on history when she earned her masters degree in aeronautical engineering. While this was some accomplishment in itself, Elsie’s fame was not due to this alone. By achieving this degree, she became the first woman in history to ever achieve a degree in engineering, paving the way for future generations of women to break into the field.
