Footage has been released of two F-35A Lightning II stealth jets landing and taking off from a public road as part of a NATO exercise.
On September 21 a pair of F-35A Lightning IIs from the Royal Norwegian Air Force landed on a public highway in Finland. They were joined by an RAF Typhoon, which also touched down and took off from the same stretch of road in a first for the RAF fighter jet.
The exercise was part of a demonstration of rapid deployment in Finland, which became a member of NATO earlier this year.
"This is a milestone. Not only for the Norwegian Air Force, but also for the Nordic countries, and for NATO. This demonstrates our ability to execute a concept of dispersal", said Major General Rolf Folland, Chief of the Royal Norwegian Air Force.

"So, by being able to use small airfields – and now motorways – increases our survivability in war. In addition, this is also a demonstration of the exciting development we have initiated within the military-air cooperation in the Nordic region," Folland added.
