Trees: Move with the wind and colour with the seasons

Video cards are packing some pretty impressive punch these days, so why not bring everything they have to bear on a really thorny problem: trees. There’s lots of branches [pardon the pun! – Ed!] we could go down to address this, and with version 12 it was clear we had to re-grow our trees because people kept criticising our models. So how would I get to the root of the problem and come up with trees that we would never want to leave? I hired a new programmer specifically for this job and within a few months, Petr Bednár (graphics programmer) had some incredible stuff to show. Birch, conifer, pine and now as I write this Petr has just turned in kapok and Brazil nut? What even are those?
