Since early October there have been increasing rumors concerning China’s stealth bomber, currently under development at Xi’an. Combat Aircraft unpicks the blogs and reports, and considers when this new warplane might emerge from the shadows.

The new Chinese stealth bomber program is making progress, but is unlikely to be publicly revealed for some time.

EACH NEW REPORT on the future bomber seems to serve the purpose of exaggerating a previous story. It all began with a simple report by China’s state media indicating that the ‘bomber program was making great progress’. The process culminated with suggestions that the People’s Liberation Air Force (PLAAF) might be planning to publicly reveal the aircraft during celebrations to the mark its 70th anniversary in August 2019.
