My Mother is travelling from GLA to PMI with BY on Monday. When she booked her ticket yesterday she was asked if she would want breakfast onboard. She was then charged £10 extra for this.

I've never heard of this on a charter before. Are BY operating some sort of low cost schedules?

Couldn't find any reference to this charge on britanniadirect.com.

I hope for a tenner it includes a quarter of champagne!

It's common on most charter airlines now, apparently reducing the cost of your ticket if you choose not to take up the offer of breakfast.

The front of the Thomas Cook brochure explains this perfectly.

They offer three types of holiday:

Economy/Standard/Extra

For economy - meals are extra and have a 15K luggage limit
For standard - meals are included and have a 20K luggage limit.
For Extra - meals are included, the luggae limit is £25K and pre-bookable seats are also included.

Basically, the holiday companies are trying to offer more choice and are stripping back the cost of most things in order to make holidays look more attractive. What used to be standard, quite often, now comes at an additional charge.

Thanks

Thanks for that guys.

The average cost to an airline for a hot breakfast is about £1.50, so they'll be making a nice little profit out of this system as well.

Must be a nightmare for the crew working out who has paid for what!

I'm sure she'll enjoy it all the same,

every time ive been on a charter plane ( britannia mytravel thomas cook) they have said every 1 is getting a meal every time even though your meant to pay for it which i think is a bit strange and cheeky..
