I'd like to get my hands on that book about the VC-10. anymore details like ISBN and author title price publisher etc? I never knew the VC-10 was considered for so many roles. I know it's a good aircraft and is faster than normal passenger jets but the book seems to imply it was thought of using the VC-10 for every role going. Stick a big radar a missiles and it could be a fighter lol

Air Defence VC-10 'Red Barrell' - carrying up to 18 CF-299 missiles according to the drawing and info on it.........

The US had a similar idea for the C-135 called Project Aerie with upto 24 AAN-M-10 Eagle missiles

The book itself is easier bought direct from Chris Gibson himself.

The thing that is interesting to me about the S-67 is that it was also a troop transport rather than a dedicated attack helicopter like the Cobra or Apache. Imagine S-67s and Apaches working side-by-side.

Costantly amazed that S67 was allowed to wither and die.

Sure a crash at an airshow is bad PR (and I hope it goes without saying; a tragedy for friends and family of the deceased) but other aircraft have suffered such bad PR and the programme has continued.

ON PAPER the S67 seems to have offered a unique combination (well unique in the West anyway) of attributes and just not had any friends.

It was essentially the equivilent of the Mi-24 Hind... and one really does wonder why such a wonderful looking machine never went ahead.
Link to a Sikorsky demo video (complete with funky 70s music).
Very pixelated but worth a watch...

Here's the Gripen carrying lots of Bombs. Any ideas on what type/weight they are. For being a 1 engine plane the Gripen sure can carry a lot of bomb load.

Here is a CGI for the Gripen in the indian fighter comptetition carrying lots of bombs.

Any idea's on what this Gripen is carrying. I'm seeing a maverick(presumably 2), 2 wingtip missiles either sidewinder or IRIS-T and another?
http://www.canit.se/~griffon/aviation/img/saab/gripen/gall97/gripen-probe.jpg

Again another CGI, i doubt this would even take off with such a load!

And just cause i like both planes a Gripen taking fuel from an RAF VC-10. It will be so sad when these planes retire.

the india proposal
Python 5, and Total of 8x GBU-12 LGBs on Twin Store Carriers fitted to Stations 2 and 5 (L&R), plus 2x 300 US gallon Fuel Drop tanks on Station 3 (L&R), Station 4 fitted with Laser Designator Pod, Station 5C empty:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Python_(missile)
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/GBU-12_Paveway_II

the big missile is the RB-15F and is an anti-ship missile.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/RBS-15

the other stuff, i have no idea?

the empty weight 7.1 tons (the NG of the renditions) and maximum takeoff at 16.5 tons so...just count backwards.
The DK would probably takeoff, thou it has been offered to danmark..

NICE!

4 Skybolts FTW! Too bad it got cancelled because "it don't work" on the very day it flew a successful test flight. :(

Skybolt was killed by treatise. Imagine the destabilizing force of such a missile in that time period.

Does anyone else think the B-52 in the picture up a few posts looks a bit different round the cockpit area? At first i didn't regognise it. Maybe just the camera angle or the paint job.

Here's another one.

Does the BUFF also fit these in it's weapons bay? Does anyone have a picture of the inside of the B-52's weapons bay. With or withour weapons in it. A picture with it stacked with bombs would be most entertaining though.
