-Thank you all for the nice comments. Yes, the glider on the first picture is a Schleicher K4 Rhönlerche II. I had never flown this type. Last year I got the chance to fly it in exchange for a couple of pictures.

-Many years ago I remember flying a loop in a Rhonlerche at Gutersloh on my first flight on type. I got it wrong and was a little on the slow side over the top and there was an almightly crack. I looked around and realised the wings were still attached and gingerly flew around the circuit and landed. I exited the glider looking like I had seen a ghost. The Duty Instructor saw me and spent 5 minutes rolling about on the floor after about 5 minutes he told me he had experienced the very same thing on the previous flight. The rear seat pan is hinged, as the glider fell through the top of the loop the seet pan smashed against the seat back as it is designed to do - no damage.

I did a couple of trips in a Ka4 at Brawdy in the early 80's when they were trying to establish a club there, dont remember much about the glider (except the wings looked too small :D ),but did see it many times from the winch.
We used to get a wicked wind shear from the nearby cliffs, you would have to use a lot of power to launch the glider and then by 150' sometimes the glider was waving off speed even when you had already stopped the drum !!

I would love to try "the rest" too. Are you going to invite me in the new flying season?

-The first glider flight I had was in a K4 at Detmold. Having flown in other types since I don't think it is as resposive to control inputs as things like the K7 and K13 or even, dare I say it? the Blanik
