-Don't know if Arrcab carriers are still available - but if they are you get about 10 US supercarriers carriers spread around the world.
The Carrier Operation Package V2.0 (free Avsim) gives you catapult ops, arrester wires , meatball, sonic boom etc etc.
You will need FSUIPC to run this all....
All works fine in FS9 - don't know about FSX.

-That looks good!-So it's an add-on?-and what's FSUIPC, then?
By: 3rd November 2009 at 15:28 Permalink - Edited 1st January 1970 at 01:00
-FSUIPC is essentially an interface that allows outside programs it work with FS9 or FSX.
It also allows some of the more complex addons such as the Aircraft carriers and the associated things such as arresters, catapults,HUDs etc to work inside FS.
It is not free....current cost about £15 one time payment...see the link...tells all .It is essential if you want to use these more complex addons.

-Bit more info....
If you can find Arrcab somewhere on the net - this is by far the best carrier setup IMO..
Each carrier comes with ILS,VOR and other navaids... 3 catapilts ( two bow , one waist). Angled flight deck.... etc etc.
There is a NZ carrier HMNZS Waikito - not bad - but not so realistic.
The Carrier Ops package gives the means to add tailhook, catapult release etc, also HUD for deck landings...includes realistic sounds and instructions for modifying the panels in your chosen aircraft to include all these controls.
If you are going to try it - there is a certain amount of work required to set it all up so that it works properly - but the effort is well worth it for the end result.
Don't know if they are still available , but 3 or 4 years ago I uploaded some addon panels to AVSIM that had been modded for carrier Ops- might be looking at ( I'll check out AVSIM later tonight and see if I can find them for you - will save you several hours of work...if they have gone I can always send you them direct at some time.

-Naval Jet Carrier Ops V3(njco3.zip) ...This is a panel file that I uploaded to AVSIM back in 2004- still available in their library.... for small jets (Intruder etc)
Here is a link for the carrier ops files ... you want the file at the top of the page "rcbco-11.zip"....

If you're looking for a game with carrier operations, combat and an option to fly multiple aircraft types, I would suggest Jane's Fighters Anthology. It was released in 1997 and doesn't offer the best graphics or realism, but I think it's a classic piece of entertainment.

There are two versions of FSUIPC, and one of them is free. This will allow the majority of outside programs to work with MS's flight sims. There are two versions, one for FSX and one for the sims that went befoer; make sure you get the right one!

-IL-2 1946 Has Pacific Fitghters expansion. You can fly from allied fleet carriers and small Escourt carriers. Also major Japanese Carriers. Fly in combat in Seafires, Hellcats, Wildcats and corsairs. Attack Jap carriers in the Dauntless. Fly in Zeros and Vals, even take part in the attack on Pearl Harbour.

You can't engage in combat, as such, on FSX, but you can re-create actual combat missions by reflying the routes, and setting the weather conditions, etc, as they were on a particular day in history - you just need to do the research. Alternatively, take a look at PC Pilot magazine over the last year, where a whole series of combat missions have been recreated, ranging from a high altitude intercept in a Spitfire to a desert ground attack mission in a Hurricane IID.
Also, its worth bearing in mind that many FSX combat aircraft add-ons have the ability to drop bombs (which admittedly don't explode), or fire guns. I'm thinking in particular of Just Flight's Mosquito and P-38 Lightning, and Vertigo Studios SBD Dauntless and F6F Hellcat.

I'm assuming there is one!-but is there one where you can 'fly' a wide range of aircraft types (from say, a Pup to an F/A-18 or Harrier?
