Today we had an Anotonov 124 at Schiphol airport. First time I ever saw one of them and for those who have never seen it, it is even bigger then you already think it is!

I know just how big there are from my own experience!
This a/c was at RAF Fairford in '99 next to a C-5 Galaxy.
This shot was taken from a crew exit door behind the wing on a C5.
I walked from front to back in the C5 then into the body of the An124-100. Visually there isnt much difference, except the An124 looks and feels bigger, certainly cleaner!

I think these facts speak for themselves.

A380......... Wing span 261ft, Length 239ft, Height 79ft
An124....... Wing span 240ft, Lenght 228ft, Height 73ft
B747......... Wing span 213ft, Length 231ft, Height 63ft

Max take off weight...
A380..... 1,235,000lb (560,000Kg)
An124... 892,857lb (405,000Kg)
B747..... 870,000lb (394,625Kg)

The delivery of a 135.2-tonne stator for a Siemens electric generator carried by an An124 was entered in the Guinness Book of Records as the heaviest single cargo item ever carried by air.
So the cargo variant of an A380 should beat it?

Overall the A380 will be a huge beast.

The an225 will still be the biggest. Only the heigth is smaller, because it has two small instead of one large tail.

An225....... Wing span 290ft, Length 275ft, Heigth 59ft
A380......... Wing span 261ft, Length 239ft, Height 79ft
An124....... Wing span 240ft, Lenght 228ft, Height 73ft
B747......... Wing span 213ft, Length 231ft, Height 63ft

An225... 1,322,750lb (600,000Kg)
A380..... 1,235,000lb (560,000Kg)
An124... 892,857lb (405,000Kg)
B747..... 870,000lb (394,625Kg)

I do not know about any future versions of the A380. A larger version is on the drwaing boards, but this one is obviously not going to be launched anytime soon!
