Was only a matter of time. Hope the pilot makes a full recovery.

These pilots and their ilk fly very close to the edge and it is astonishing that this is the first accident. I suppose it shows just how skilled they are but also how fine the wire is. And we remember the Red Arrows accident in Crete last month. I sincerely hope he recovers to fly again.

Lucky. Very lucky. It could easily have been so much worse...

I thought there was a previous RB crash in Malta? Two planes collided - one plane crashed into the sea (1 fatality), the other plane landed safely.

The Maltese decided that would be the last RB air race in Malta.

You are correct about the accident in 2006 in Malta although I am not sure whether this was a Red Bull race, it was called the Malta Aero GP.

A Yak-55, SE-KHD collided with an Extra N22JW and both crashed into the sea. The Extra pilot baled and was saved but unfortunately the Yak pilot died.

It was the Aero GP so not one of the Red Bull air race series.

The pilot today is a lucky man to walk away from that and credit has to go to the rescue services for getting to him so quickly.
