Doing my first trip to Aus. Never flown this far on an economy flight and really not looking forward to it (I am 6'1!).

Flying Qantas

Any tips on how to get through this?

Stopping off at Singapore for a few hours, any chance of getting a shower? Is it worth paying for lounge access?

If you are so worried about the interminable shame of flying "economy" with all those other tramps..i suggest charter a biz jet from Netjets...only cost about 20 times the "economy" fare, but, you won't have to suffer any chavs etc..........:diablo:
Seriosly though...........
there are a couple of pay per use lounges at Changi
Terminal 1
The Rainforest Lounge at Departure Transit Lounge West, Level 3
For more information, visit www.rainforestbysats.com

Terminal 3
Ambassador Transit Lounge at Departure Transit Lounge, Level 3.

I have flown LHR-SIN-BNE return, but on SIA rather than Qantas. The first sector was aboard an A380 (no exploding engines) and it was a very comfortable flight, if long. The second sector was aboard an A330, which was probably ok in isolation but felt very cramped and noisy after the A380. Also, SIN-BNE and back again was rather stormy.
