Don't condem a story you don't like because of the source..I've noticed that seems to be your fall back stance on issues.

Judge each story by its content...does it seem fair, present both sides of a point, have legitimate sources for quotes?

Ther are some media source I don't care for, but I don't assume EVERYTHING they print or broadcast is trash.

Be objective, keep an open mind.

Having said that, Im ready for my caning, sir.

Ah, The Daily Heil, essential reading for that "feel good" factor http://www.mocgb.net/forums/images/smilies/yahoo/21.gif

Quite enjoy the coffee break page though :o

Did read that story from various sources though. Pretty poor show, but at least they've shown their true colours for all to see.

No caning for you JB, go to the top of the class, I totallly agree with you 100%. Who flew into the twin towers, who had a bomb in his shoe on a plane, London tube bombings ditto London bus. I could go on but would get red carded!!
However I guess you get my drift, what goes around comes around.

Spot on Linc - we're running scared of offending Muslims here and Cameron has finally got off the fence in his speech in Munich. Yes, I know, most Muslims are peacable, English-loving citizens ( I know a few of them and like them a lot ) but we have to be aware that a minority seek only evil against us and we should not be afraid to talk about it and to hell with the petty-fogging laws which seek to restrain us.

The Lance Corporal should not be offended but proud ,that him an many people like him have given the two councillors from the respect party the right to protest in such away.

I agree with what you say, however, not in MY, repeat, MY Country, they showed total disrespect to a HERO, who does not have to blow not only himself up, but hundreds of others to prove it!!

With respect, I wonder if you would feel the same if you were a Brit squaddie aged 20 who had had both arms and legs blown off by an IED but in good health having survived?.

Because, Gooney Bird, looking at their ages, I'd guess they were probably born here and are British Nationals, like many of the radicalised Muslim youth who are British. The problem being that they see themselves as Muslims first, not Nationals of any Country.

It's not multiculturalism that's the problem. It's the disenfranchisement of certain Muslim youths who are looking for something to belong to. Some, like some of the white youth, turn to crime, drugs and antisocial behaviour. Others live normal quiet and productive lives. It's the minority who find themselves with nothing left but radical Islam to turn to.

I've not explained that very well but I know what I mean.

Or a villager who's eldest son has been killed because he fought for what he believes is an unauthorized invasion of his country.

Or a mother who cannot dare let her children play in the fields for fear of them picking up unspent ordinance or getting in the cross fire.

War is relative, you WILL only be given the story of the side your on.

It still does not alter the fact that WE shouldnt be in this war, it matters not a jot if they were born here or not, "When in Rome" springs to mind, if you can't stand the heat in the kitchen, just because your bored with living here, get out.

I understand what you mean Kev, and understand where you are coming from.
As regards the minority you mention, would it not be possible for a Muslim Cleric to have words with these kids, or their parents?.Or at least some of their elders.

Imams do and they expel any one with radical views from the mosque, which has been reported time and time again.

Don't you think educating them into society is better than being expelled, which is more or less condoning their behavior, and letting them get away with "Murder" as some do.unfortunately, and then wonder why the minority spoil it for the majority. If the "Decent" Muslims want peace and quite if not all do, then why on earth don't they themselves sort the troublemakers out, what they need is a Muslim Charles Bronson, and take matters into their own hands.

I usually don't get into these debates but since I was invited to Cardiff University as a researcher and have been living here for a few months now, I thought I would just drop my two cents in.

First of all, what David Cameron said today about failure of multiculturalism is nothing new. Historically multiculturalism has never worked a 100%, and never will.

Overall I agree with the concept of "when in Rome, do as the Romans". Its correct and should be followed by everyone who is entering another persons home. Having said this, it is also to be remembered that persons home is a 'home', and not a place where guests are treated with suspicion just because a person living 200 miles away from the same background committed a crime.

Coming back to the article posted in the first post, I overall agree with that as well and that is not just a problem in the West. It is harder to debate areas such as Islamic extremism these days, make that its harder to constructively debate such an issue. I was disheartened by some of the comments here using phrases such as "get out". I think that is exactly the place where Britain does not need to go.

Yes Muslims are going to feel the pinch, and have been post 9/11 and will continue to do so for decades to come. But as Kev pointed out, the problem if extremism is not just a case of kids being brainwashed, it is also a case of continuing loss of identity. I have seen first hand in Cardiff for example, Muslim students blending in rather well with the local population. Picking up sports like Rugby and indulging in Welsh cultures easily, which in turn makes it very easy for them to mingle. And these are students who have come from outside and are not British born.

Britain, again, even if it upsets people should go hard in areas where it has intel that extremism is thriving. And by this I don't mean barge into homes and cause a havoc in general, but by offering support. Maybe the media can actually come to use here and the government can run campaigns for families and young youth to come upfront and talk to counselors if they think they are being suppressed by their families etc. Offer guidance freely, advertise, use the media instead of being scared of being tagged as 'racist'. People these days use the word 'racist' at free will, anything that a person does against a person of other color HAS to be determined as . It has become impossible to debate!

Anyway, moving on with all this Britain needs to be VERY careful as to not become generally obsessed with this issue, and more over make sure the general population does get paranoid and obsessed with race. It needs to distinguish CLEARLY as to who the problem maker is, and who is not. Not every person who looks 'South Asian' is here to cause trouble, or seemingly has to be from a suppressed background. This is crucial for both British society and economy.

I am not afraid to say that during my 4 months here I have had some incidents of being told to "go home". If this problem in Britain gets out of hands from paranoia and bigotism mixed with a non-recovering economy I think UK will have a lot to deal with in the future. But then again, I also take note of the fact that MAJORITY of Brits are well educated and hard thinking people and the ones telling me otherwise ARE a big minority who because of there opinions, get much more coverage by the media making there minority voice seem a majority. This is existent in any society, and all societies amplify this subject causing hysteria and over-reactive concerns ultimately leading to bad decisions.

Overall almost everyone I have had the pleasure to meet in Cardiff and in UK in general has been as pleasant as a human can be. I have been coming to the UK since I was a wee toddler and absolutely love to spend some time here.

I just hope that this issue is dealt with a calm mind, and not give in to the reactions of anger.
