There is a posting on the forum Ricky who???
It seems we can go one better if we can state which male comedian we think is, or was the best ever, not for crudity but for good old fashioned humour.
Personally I liked Les Dawson, what about you?.

Les Dawson never raised even a smile - Billy Connelly WAS very funny indeed. but palled. Are we talking strand-up monologues or comedy performances? If the only former then Frankie Howerd and Tommy Cooper certainly, and Jaspar Carrott and Bob Monkhouse later on.

Never found them funny at all.
But Carrott is very very funny still , remember watching his first TV special and he had me rolling on the floor crying with laughter.

Yes - I forgot Manning and Spike goes without saying, of course, but I don't categorise him as a stand-up, if that's what we are discussing.......

Hi Peter. ANY male comedian, stand up, sit down, dangling by his goolies from a sky hook, it's the ones WE like and who make us laugh.:D like that !!

Yep. Good old Billy, not just a comedian, but damned good presenter, as in his tour of the world. But being 50% a Scot myself, I am bound to be a bit biased;)

........the best ever, not for crudity but for good old fashioned humour.

How about:

Eric Sykes / Eric Morcambe / Norman Wisdom / Peter Kay To name but a few.

However, for all round shear entertainment value, nobody can come anywhere close to the late, great Tommy Cooper.

In which case it gets really difficult - I don't think I can single any out - my list is long starting with Max Miller and Arthur Askey and ending with John Shuttleworth, aka Graham Fellowes, and Peter Kaye with dozens on the way....:D

Hi Peter. I think your a comedian, most of the folks on the forum wouldn't have even heard of the likes of Max Miller, only the likes of you and I. ;):D
