Cyclists with cameras

I've just seen the video of the Cyclist with his Helmet Camera, who was "Cut up" by a White Van, to which he banged on the van shouting at the driver. At the next available stopping point, the van driver got out and knocked a couple of Bells out of him. (No pun intended, although it's rather good!)
To which, the Van driver got 3 points for bad driving and about £300 fine for bopping him one. The driving was not that bad at all.
Well, this particular cyclist, like a great many of them, was looking for conflict. He had plenty of room, and as usual he thinks he owns the 6 feet from the kerb and woe betide any car driver entering that zone.
The driver should not have even got out of the van, that was his mistake.
The cyclist was a really Weasal faced pencil necked wimp of a man that only a mother could love. The driver was lucky he didn't snap his head off when he hit him, it would only have taken a slap.
So, just beware, no matter how wrong the cyclists are, they are possibly carrying cameras, and can dramatically make a situation far far worse than it is by shouting at the drivers, braking not hard enough and hitting you, pretending to fall off etc. The Police and Courts will always lean towards the Cyclist when a car is involved...in our anti-car society.
Obviously, there are some people that do not care about cyclists, and what goes around comes around IMO.
But beware of being scammed by artificial accidents created by this sort of thing.
Drivers beware. And cyclists, use the goddam cycle paths and Bus lanes, you fought for them so use them.

So random acts of violence are ok, what next beating a child to a bloody pulp because they answered back? Kicking a pregnant woman in the stomach because she is taking up too much space?

Most road users and cyclists are fine, however some road users seem to think that cyclists should not be on the road (it's illegal to ride on the pavement) and do not make allowances for them. Considering it takes me fifteen minutes less to make a journey to uni on a bike instead of driving, is healthier, better for the environment and a fraction of the price it amazes me the contempt that the world has for cyclists. Maybe with attitudes like this we should have let Hitler win the war.

At least they would have followed the rules of the road....

The problem with a lot of cyclists I think is they expect to be able to use the roads like a car which just doesn't make sense to me. When the white van "cut him up" he looked like he as way out in the road where he just shouldn't have been, so really it's his own fault. It isn't even a case of whether or not as a cyclist I have the right to be somewhere on a road or not, it's the fact that I'm a guy on a bike weighing next to nothing and road vehicles generally weigh between 1 and 40 tons, it's basic logic not to get too cocky about it!

PeeDee, sure there are some idiot cyclists out there but don't let that get in the way of the fact there are plenty of idiot drivers as well.

Exactly. Most cyclists around my way are ok.
Has anyone noticed how bad Toyota Prius drivers are, by the way? I often see them being driven flat out with their silly little petrol engines bouncing off the rev-limiter.

I would extend that by saying that the majority of motorists and cyclists are fair to good and there is a minority of each who should not even be on the roads.

Cmon guys. We're being far too sensible & PC here. Death to all cyclists. You get double points for running over cyclists over 50 :D

Thanks BB!
Very disappointing though - I hope his cycling skills are better than his camerawork. The van driver should have been given a medal for the restraint shown in the face of such an obvious lycra Nazi...

Ermm, since they are all automatic, and effectively CVT at that, how exactly do they get to the rev limiter, and how can you tell from outside?

Come and have a go if you think you're hard enough (and aren't in a big lorry) :D

Deano can usually be found in a Q-400 at around 25,000 feet. Something's really gone wrong if he manages to hit you in that! :D

Robbo, remarkably I agree with your every word. It's the "militant" cyclists who are the real problem and their stupidity that often causes accidents others get the blame for.

Al, I agree. The van driver was remarkably patient considering the stupidity of the cyclist!

there's a growing core of, for want of a better word, militant, cyclists who give the impression that they've got a god-given right to ignore everyone else on the road with impunity.

Apart from Robbo's examples there are also many cyclists who show a total disregard for those on foot, riding over pedestrian crossings while people are in the process of crossing. And then there are all those who ignore red lights and one-way signs. I firmly believe that a greater percentage of cyclists break the law than of motorists.

I used to cycle a lot and I could be very hot-headed and intolerant of others myself, but I would never break the rules of the road - it's just not safe for anyone.

Every cyclist who rides on the pavement, however courteously, is breaking the law, of course.

Jetflap, almost without doubt more cyclists break the rules of the road than motorists. The number of cyclists I see go through red lights is beyond belief, and they'll be the first ones to blame a perfectly legal vehicle driver when they get hit. I don't drive but I do cycle sometimes, and it's amazing how many idiot cyclists you see. Riding at night with no lights is another pet hate of mine!
