I have finnally connected my games computer to the web. This allowed me to sort out the above, which I was given as a birthday present.

I have spent the last three days trying to get the aircraft flying steady. Its all over the place release the stich and it climes like a homesick angel. It rolls to the left badly. I'm using a saitek X65 stick and saitek combat pedals.

Can anyone help me sort it out.

At the moment I am using win7 with 6gig ram.

The most obvious thing to check first is that your joystick is calibrated correctly in Windows?

Also check that you have trimmed the aircraft for level flight.
Ie VC-10 requires large amount of tail up trim for take-off and then you trim it back for normal flight.

stick with it

No trims on these old crates - you can adjust the response curves and save a profile to dial out the worse tendancies but to be honest the aircraft were tail heavy and unstable in reality.

I've been (see earlier post) giving RoF some serious time at full real and can just about go from A - B and survive a dogfight after 3 weeks and some tuition from the Oceanic Wing guys. If you want an easier time and only plan to fly single player go into the setup screen and tick simplified flight and turn off the realistic physics. Easy aiming and instruments should go on as well.

For multiplayer (where the real fun is) most servers run at full realism (there are two or three "newbie" servers but tend to be full of kill junkies).

Not had so much fun with my clothes on for ages - last night I was in a flight of 3 hunting down bombers and balloon busters; it's very immersive.

Persevere! If the aircraft persists in being awkward use [Shift A] to go straight and level to give yourself a rest. Remember it's the dawn of aviation and the machine has little power and won't handle like a modern aeroplane.

The Rise of Flight website has a useful forum, but get on teamspeak and find a squadron - makes the whole thing alive!

Any questions let me know

Really must give this a proper go online.

John C are you 'flying' in UK time?

Sounds like the stick needs adjusting in the calibration window, years since i touched it, but it uses il2 as the engine i believe, register and ask here, they are very good at this type of problem

Just to let you know, Tony. The development team dropped the IL2 engine and made their own from scratch :)

Hi Bruce,

No, I tend to fly in the evenings Japan time (BST +8) so that means that weekends in the morning for me coincides with late UK time.

I've hooked up the Australian/Kiwi mob who are good fun.

ROF

Thanks John C

I'm not sure what you mean by setting screen. I don't seem to have one, just the startup screen and there is nothing to cover it. The tabs across the top don't have it in any of them.

OH Um back to the drawing board or matbe the scrap bin...

When you are in the game (all the green hangar screens etc), go to options. In there you can set the axis preferences, key commands and there is a screen called responses. On Responses you can set the 3 input lines to dial out any bad behaviour (X is the stick input and Y is the control response).

So basically select the pitch graph, switch off Symmetry and move the centre to the negative side (you can do this while flying) until the aircraft flies how you like it. Sounds complicated but it's not!

When you are happy save the profile (key commands and everything gets saved) as "SPAD1" for example and load it whenever you need it. When I use the HP400 for instance, I have two profiles: one that puts it into a climbing turn to gain altitude (it takes ages!) and another for cruise and I switch between them.

There's a new patch coming in a week or so that will give a whole load of new stuff (better career mode and a host of other things) - so long as you update at the first screen it will upload if you press update.

Check out the Rise of Flight Forum - loads of info there.

Good luck but let me know if there is anything you need to ask!!
