Cessna 152 crash - Blue Cypress Lake, Florida

http://uk.news.yahoo.com/scottish-pair-die-us-plane-crash-185403375.html

"A British brother and sister have died in a plane crash in Florida, police in America said.
Carly Beattie, 21, was flying in a Cessna 152 with her brother Daniel, 24, when it crashed on Thursday in a wooded area near Blue Cypress Lake.....

...Ms Beattie was in America as part of her degree course at a British university.
Professor Ruth Farwell, Vice Chancellor of Buckinghamshire New University, in High Wycombe in Buckinghamshire, said: "We have been informed that Carly Beattie, a second year student studying air transport with commercial pilot training, has been killed in an incident involving a small plane in Florida....... "

I have just realised from the BBC news report that the deceased are from my home location, Edinburgh, Scotland, although I don't know them personally.

".... Authorities in Florida said the pair, from the Edinburgh area, were visiting Merritt Island with their parents....."

My sympathies to those bereaved and my respects to the deceased, RIP.

Do we know the user name of the forum member from Penicuik?

Hi Newforest

Do we know the user name of the forum member from Penicuik?

Here's this evening's local news with pics of the young brother and sister killed in this tragedy

http://edinburghnews.scotsman.com/topstories/Inquiry-begins-after-tragic-Florida.6783421.jp

Penicuik is only a few miles outside the city where I live and many at my Uni are from Penicuik and may know these two young people, although the pilot was attending University in Bucks, she schooled at St Georges (the report says).

Tragic

DazDaMan is from there.

Very sad indeed RIP :(

Yep, I'm from sunny Penicuik.

My mum knew their father reasonably well. He used to own the little chemist shop down the road.

Very sad.

Hi Daren

It must be agonising for the parents as they were/are in Florida.

Any idea if Carly and Daniel were the Beattie's only children and if so it's even more tragic for the parents.

I met someone who has a neighbour in Penicuik who knows Carly.

And I am sure there will be many at my Uni who know Carly from Penicuik but since Uni has broken for summer vacation I haven't news from many colleagues.

Siblings' fatal crash second accident at US flying school
"THE flying school which leased a plane to a brother and sister from Midlothian who died when it plunged into a Florida swamp is reportedly being investigated over a similar crash last year.

Crash investigators are still waiting to retrieve the Cessna 152 aircraft and police have said it could be months before the cause of the crash is known.

But now it has emerged Space Coast Aviation, based on Merritt Island, is currently under investigation over another crash last August which left a young Irish woman in hospital......."

From STV news it is confirmed that Mr and Mrs Beattie had only the two children Daniel and Carly now both deceased.

Funeral for Florida plane crash siblings

Funeral for Florida plane crash siblings

http://heritage.scotsman.com/scotland/Funeral-for-Florida-plane-crash.6790335.jp

"HUNDREDS of mourners gathered yesterday for the funeral of a brother and sister from Edinburgh who died in a plane crash in Florida.

Around 80 people, dressed in colourful clothes as requested by the family, lined the streets as the coffins arrived at Mortonhall Crematorium in Edinburgh, a short drive from where their parents Elaine and Thomas live.

Around 200 mourners attended the celebration of life service, which was led by humanist celebrant Anne Roberts.

In a tribute released ahead of the service by Buckinghamshire New University, in High Wycombe, Ms Beattie's course co-ordinator Shari Peyami said: "Carly had an unbounded enthusiasm and dedication to becoming a pilot. Her lively personality and passion for flying made her popular with all of her colleagues and instructional staff."
