-Hmm, interesting. He may have been a world class driver, but to fly without the proper qualifications? And could he have been mucking about? :S

-Very sad reading.
My memories are of watching Colin full chat through the forests of Wales, the Lake District and Yorkshire, and of a memorable meeting at the roadside following one of his retirements. His co driver (can't remember who it was at the time) had gone wandering out of the stage and Colin and I sat at the side of the track chatting while he ate my sandwiches and drank my soup. He certainly was a fascinating man to talk to and very good company. But back in the late 80's and 90's many of the rally drivers were approachable and I had memorable conversations with the likes of Colin's Father Jimmy, Russell Brookes, Ari Vatanen, Markku Alen, Dai Llewellyn, Gwyndaf Evans (he ran me over on Scarborough sea front at 2 o'clock one morning), Penttii Arrikkala and the amazing Juha Kankkunen.
I sincerely hope that Colin is remembered for his achievements and for the pleasure he gave to those who saw him drive rather than what can only be described as a tragic and most unfortunate end.

-its sad news indeed, but i cant for one minute imagine that in all the time he knew his sons friend and the parents, that it never once came into conversation that he flew a helicopter and he could have a flight in it, but they are saying he wasnt allowed to go for that flight, colin mcrae never sought permission, i dont believe that for a second :(
RIP Colin

-No, the report states that the permission of the parents of his son's friend was not sought for the flight.
