Since BAe moved out of Dunsfold its future as an airfield has been in the balance, plans to build houses on the site were rejected and planning for the continued use as an airfield thrown out. Many of the existing building are used for industrial purposes. In 2011 the owners applied for a Certificate of Lawful Use, ie its been an airfield for years so it should be allowed to continue as one, but Waverley Borough Council rejected that.
Now an appeal has been lodged with the Planning Inspectorate. A Public Hearing is due on the 31st of January for ten days during which all sides get a chance to put their views.
Incidentally Waverley Council are spending over £60,000 to fight this.

Good to see the GA community rallying to help the airfield

Yes I was dissapointed to find all this going on without it being better flagged to the aviation community. In theory a CLU is different to a normal planning application in as much as it should be fact based(historic records of aircraft movements) and not opinion based(NIMBY). Perhaps Dunsfold have all the records they need!

So what does the council want as they keep rejecting ideas?

Sad to see no support for this but no doubt when it gets rejected there will be plenty of complaints about how it would of made a great little airfield etc.

I hope that they see it through and manage to make a successful airfield out of it again. Fingers crossed.
Is there any petitions to sign or anything in support of this?

Some palms will be greased and the developers will move in. Or the land will be sold to Germany.

Well, I'm the second to support it. Any more, chaps?

There is perhaps more than a hint that the airfield management might have shot themselves in the foot during past years. For as long as I can remember, the airfield have been less that welcoming when called PPR.

It is just about three or so months ago that in response to my request, I managed to get my one and only permission to visit by air - at a landing fee of £18 for a light single. Thanks but no thanks.

Now they will struggle if they want to show evidence to the Local Authority that a thriving, vibrantly busy airfield faces closure.
