Thought this maybe of interest..

Seems abit odd that they wanted to try and control who can and can't take pics, especially in the age when even a mobile can take a photo.

Woe betide any one who brakes these rules, have there any games prior to this with such heavy enforcement of rules and protection of corporate sponsors.

With the way it is unintentionally being marketed right from the farce with the tickets and those like Chris Hoy who won't be able to get tickets for his parents and his wife (maximum of two per athlete) to the photo ban attempt it has put me right off and I'll be glad when the whole thing is over and we can get back to normal.

The spirit of the Games has been totally trampled to death by big business. I can't say I've noticed when it was held elsewhere, but for me it's spoiled before it even starts...

Nor me just get on with all the cavorting about and "B" off home. I suppose then it will all be about the cost and how much it has made/lost the UK(delete as applicable)

As for photographs, people should be allowed to photograph what they like. If you don't want it photographed, hide it :) Then again even the freedom of speech is being take away with the "hate crime", "political correctness", and RIPA!

Indeed. When we first entered a bid I thought it was a good thing. All this talk of Olympic lanes, the shocking ticket allocations (10% to the superior elites) and general wastage on unnecessary stuff has made me have no Olympic spirit at all! Admittedly I was never massively in favour anyway.

I wish, even at this late stage, they'd just cancel the Olympics.

Too expensive and too much trouble for what's it's worth.

Totally agree, watched the trial of the torch procession with loads of police escorts and thought do we need all this b*llsh*t, just beam the bloody flame directly into the stadium and save all the wasted money and get the police doing their proper job.

It has totally been ruined, one council is planning on filming the crowds FOR THERE OWN PURPOSES. Big brother... HAVE THE BALLS TO SAY WHY YOU ARE DOING IT, if you intend to... They seem to forget they are our servants, not the other way round! All this commercial rights etc have simply turned the Olympics into what it was never designed to be..... The day they went away from amateurs only ruined the games for me.

I also see from a link off the Olympic link they are looking at putting more stringent Internet blocks and filters in to protect kids accessing porn, Again more Big Brother... that sounds to me more like using kids as an excuse to add more big brother Internet control through a back door... The way to prevent kids stopping viewing stuff is to take Internet links out of their bedrooms and have parental monitoring of kids on PC's on line in the living room etc... If they want to play games online in their room, get them an Xbox.

Newham businesses using the word Olympic in their name could be asked to change it as trading standards officers clamp down on illegal use of the brand.

Kamel Kichane, manager of Cafe Olympic in West Ham Lane, Stratford has been forced to change the name of his diner after he was told he could face legal action over his use of the word Olympic.

He said he spoke to the council before he chose a name for the cafe three years ago, just after London was chosen to host the 2012 Olympic Games. He admitted he did not get written permission but says he was told it would be Ok as long as he did not use the Olympic Rings.

He was faced the prospect of a £3,000 bill to change his signs and logos but decided to make the necessary alternattions with minimal expense.

A spokesman for Newham Council told the Recorder: “The Olympic Café was visited by an officer in 2009. It was explained that the café’s trading name was illegal and we asked them to remove it.

“The Olympics are crucial for the regeneration of Newham and we are following legislation put in place by the government. There are copyright restrictions for businesses around the use of the word Olympic and the five rings. We are currently discussing with LOCOG the best way to deal with those who use such words or marks unlawfully.”

Wonder what happens to any business who used the word 'Olympic' before London was chosen? Apparently Little Chef have been told they have to rename their "Olympic Breakfast"! Now that has been on the menu for decades - if true the OIC needs to be told to eff off...

I reckon Southend will see some heavy traffic. Perhaps to the extent of utilising the old Terminal for the Private flights ?

Call me Mr Cynical, but in my mind, these games are more about financial gain for politicians and
developers, than they are for the sporting content.
It's become an easy way of taking money from the poor and giving it to the rich. It's already made millionaires
out of at least one of the prime organisers, and their property developing associates. One or two MPs have also done
very well. This was shown in an ITV documentary.

No doubt they will be acknowledged in the next round of Birthday Honours, dished out by the Queen ?

Alan, I think Southend will be seeing traffic, so will Biggin Hill, Farnborough, Luton, Cranfield and I can't remember where else.
I will be starting a job soon that will have me dealing with the ones that visit Cranfield. :D

Just as a matter of interest, anyone know just how much these games, right down to the medals this is going to end up costing?ie, all the extra Policing, plus their cancelled rest days, holidays, etc?.As for the photography, it's just got to go on the list of "You couldn't make it up".

Didn't I also read somewhere that any comments not portraying the Olympics in a positive light will be removed from whatever media they are on?

I'm no fan of the Olympics, and wish they were happening elsewhere, but I don't have a problem with the contents of the original post. The organisers should be congratulated for confirming that they won't be pursuing legal claims against people who publish photos on the internet not for commercial gain.

Just about every event and attraction has a restriction preventing the commercial use of photos taken at it. Try selling photos taken at a premier league football match, air show or aviation museum and see how far you get before you get a call from their lawyers unless you have the relevant permissions (and have paid the relevant fees) - why should the Olympics be any different?

And Bmused, no I don't think you read that negative comments will be removed from the media - that is even more unenforcable! Of course, media accreditation maybe taken away from organisations that are particularly critical, but again, you can't really blame the organisers for that can you?

The spirit of the Games has been totally trampled to death by big business. I can't say I've noticed when it was held elsewhere, but for me it's spoiled before it even starts...
The spirit of most sport these days.

The cost of enforcing a photo ban must be a very tiny part of the alleged 8 or 9 BILLION GBP total cost of staging this useless junket.

I wonder if they'll try to enforce a photo ban when the new Chichester Theatre is built allegedly at a cost of 23 yes, 23 million GBP. How DO they find these huge sums?

Its odd how the Olympic commitee has acted over photography etc, Its the type of historic event people want to have photographs of as memories.
I went a few weeks ago to get a few shots of the buildings from outside(on the area that closes Monday 30th April) and overall was left unimpressed.

As I see it we have been MADE to pay for it, were unable to get tickets for it and then they wanted to stop us photographing anything to do with it. its certainly not the peoples games is it.
Lets get the bl**dy thing over with and get Londomn back to normal.
In case you feel you are missing out though here are a few picture of the site.

Booked three weeks in Oz to cover the entire period. It's driving me up the wall already, at least it will be on in the middle of the night over there. I would say over half the people I know think it's a complete waste of money. I believe the fireworks display alone at the ending (or it might be the opening) is costing 40 million.
