-Yes, I saw this in my news ticker.
I'll believe it when I see it. Apparently this Clive Palmer person is known for saying a lot and doing very little.

-that may be so bmused !! but first and foremost he is a sucessful businessman !!
the amount of intrest for a transatlantic titanic replica cruise would be phenomenal i reccon his places would be full for many decades at a healthy premium charge !!

-"It is going to be designed so it won't sink,'' he added. ''But, of course, if you are superstitious like you are, you never know what could happen.''
* * * * *
Where have I heard that before???
Just after Dr. Ballard found the wreck, a businessman was on the radio being interviewed having just ordered four Titanics to be used for cruises, from Harland & Wolfe.
Gave him a lot of publicity for a little while

-Hope he calls it Olympic II, because as we all now know thanks to our passing-by Troll, that was the real name of the ship that sank in 1912.

-Cool. I'm getting a ticket pronto.
I wonder if the Titanic II is to be powered by a brace of Holden Commodore V8 engines, just to add to the Aussie flavour.
Strewth!

No, but the stokers will be stoked on Fosters.:D
Seriously, Wasn't there a similar proposal a few years ago?

.....not allowed!

-Actually, calling the ship Titanic II might be considered unlucky. In that event, people might be reluctant to sail on it.

-What was the third ship of the class going to be called originally; Majestic? I seem to recall that Britannic wasn’t the original name.

-I seem to recall the same. It was on one of the multitude of Titanic documentaries a few weeks back.

-Hope he doubles up on the old life boats and builds those bulkheads a bit higher, I bet it does well, if it really does the full luxury bit...

-And, he had better not refer to it as unsinkable.
If it does sink, he should also make sure all the working class passengers get off and are not left to drown in favour of their 'betters'.

Think it was 'Gigantic' though this was aqpparently always denied by the shipping line.

-It would be interesting to know something about the construction details of this ‘replica’ (if indeed it does get built).
For example, would the hull be riveted? I’m guessing not as the skills to do this probably don’t exist any more (even in China) and the cost on this scale would be prohibitive. Plus it would leak like a sieve!
What engines would it use? Almost certainly not reciprocating steam engines (I think the engines of the Olympic class are still the largest reciprocating steam engines ever built) but maybe a steam turbine on the centre-shaft? Diesel engines probably for the other two shafts but what about the screws? Would modern screws be fitted in the name of fuel economy? Whatever engines are fitted I’m sure the levels of sound and vibration will give a totally different feel to the ship (which is a shame).
It is a pity that James Cameron didn’t know what a success that his film Titanic was going to be; if he’d built a full-size Titanic for the film he could have then sold cruises on it for years afterwards...
...I’m sure plenty of people would have wanted to stand right on the prow of Titanic!

-Think it was 'Gigantic'.
That was it. Sounding a little silly, Titanic was considered a more suitable way of saying 'largest'.

-A little more information on the construction from our favorite newspaper :)
Mr Palmer said: ‘Titanic II will be the ultimate in comfort and luxury with on-board gymnasiums and swimming pools, libraries, high class restaurants and luxury cabins.’
The only differences will be below the water line - the ship will be powered by diesel rather than coal and will include a bulbous bow for greater fuel efficiency, plus an enlarged rudder and bow thrusters for improved manoeuvrability.
It will have four smoke stacks like the coal-powered original, but they will be purely decorative.
I also read else where that the hull will be welded rather than riveted.
