Yeh would have been a lot better if the tail colours were matt rather than gloss. Saying that, 10 times better than the old livery.

The real interesting point is, that for the first time ever, AA has gone with paint instead of a natural metal finish (on most types).
Why? For years it said NMF reduced weight and paint costs (but they did acknowledge that they spent some monety buffing the aircraft after overhaul).
My guess is with the switch to more composites, there was less exterior metal. IIRC, most Airbusses in AA were already painted I suspect for that reason.

It's going to be sad to see the old polished aluminium go, but they couldn't have come up with any better replacement for the composite birds. The tail could be stylised a little more and give it that BAesque look with the star spangled banner, the new tail reminds me quite a lot of US Airways... :diablo:
Fantastic vision, I really do think this is a giant leap in the right direction (for once) for American. I honestly look forward to flying on the new American in the near future.
EDIT: I'm not an American but even I felt patriotic at the end of the video "We're proud to bare the name... American"

American did paint them in the old livery in a way as they were lacquered, so a sort of transparent weight.
i have read many times that any weight saving was cancelled by upkeep costs and the chemicals used didn't save the environment as folk assumed.
this is not too bad for a modern livery and better than the bare metal that went past it's sell by date with the advent of plastic parts on aeroplanes, something that will only increase.
One thing I don't like is the subtle tones in the tail colour blocks that make it look like another coat of paint is needed.

It's not often I can say for a branding design that I like it, but I do.
I think it shows the emphatic pride and boldness that most Americans have. Or rather, it fits my perception on how Americans love their country.
I think whoever done the branding done well.

I think it's okay. I don't think it will be a classic livery like the previous one was, but it's decent considering they have to paint them now.

Just because they've announced this as their new livery doesn't mean it's the be all and end all. It could get quite a lot of tweaking over the next 5 years (just look at VS, how many different variations have they had until they arrived at today's?)
I've read on other forums that people are ok with the fuselage but not with the tail. Yet I think it will look simply awesome when you have row upon row of red, white and blue striped tails sitting side-by-side at DFW, especially at night. If you don't like it, I say give it time :p

I think it's rather good, too.
That said, I liked the old livery. I boarded the tattiest looking B757 I've ever seen to fly London-Boston and had one of my very best flights.
Perhaps it has happy associations.

I first read and saw it on a different site, and I said "I like it, but not the tail", and then I took a look at the photo in the first post on here, and I have to say that it does actually look really quite stunning...I love it!:)
That said though, isn't AA suppose to be Chapter 11 bankrupcy...if so, where has the money come from to enable them to get a new livery design and to have their entire fleet painted?

The new look and re-branding is an important part of the restructuring. One of the reasons they entered Chapter 11 is because they fell behind the rest of the pack in terms of customer service and on-board experience and thus people stopped flying them.
The new look should help them differentiate themselves from the old American Airlines and hopefully win some flyers back.
When AA has just announced some of the largest orders in aviation history, I expect the re-branding is a relatively minor expense on the balance sheet and it's not as if the fleet will be painted overnight. It could be 2016/2017 before the last of the aluminium is phased out.

Oh dear, I don't like that American Eagle one...not sure it suits regional aircraft as well as bigger ones.
Perhaps it would look slightly better if they used Air Canada Express as an example, i.e. make more of an empahsis of the "Eagle" word like AC do with the "Express" word in the picture below, and then have the "American" wording and the new logo smaller above the windows...

Horrible, simply horrible. Its hard to believe they could do this to so recognizable a brand.
BTW, the main reason they entered bankruptcy was to ditch their pension liabilities.

The freshly painted 77W was rolled out the DFW hangar today :)
AA did a photoshoot on the apron with an impressive Texan sunset as a backdrop (I'll post the link tomorrow when I get on a computer if someone else doesn't beat me to it).
Just a heads up for all the LHR spotters on the forum, it's scheduled to arrive at 08:40 as AA050 on Sunday 3rd March (let's hope for some good weather).

Here it is. It's pretty bold. Not sure what to think of it. It sure stands out, but I find the tail to be a bit tacky. Will have to reserve judgement till I see it for real.
