-All BA's 777s are fitted with AVOD, and have been for some time?

-Only some 777's have AVOD, They are being refitted, but i dont know if all of them are. Just wondered as flying on a 777-200 series which is one of theolder planes and was hopeing by when we fly will be updated.

-The three oldest 777's are not fitted with AVOD, so if you know which plane you are on? ;)

-I believe they should all be refurbished by spring?
By: 2nd February 2013 at 13:17 Permalink - Edited 1st January 1970 at 01:00
-Reading between the lines, if the oldest three are not going to be upgraded, wouldn't that suggest that they were going out of service? I have no idea. :)
Cloud 9 seems to have his finger on the pulse in that area.

-The three oldest are all non-ERs and I believe will be the first to be replaced by the 787.

-I hope that doesn't mean they're going to be in service for some time yet.

-All but 9 of the 27 GE-powered 777-200 aircraft (G-RAES, G-VII* & G-ZZZ*) will be refitted with the new Thales IFE and new World Traveller and World Traveller Plus seating that can also be found on BA's 777-300ER fleet. The 9 aircraft that will not be re-fitted are the ones that already have Rockwell Collins AVOD installed. This system can be found on the rest of BA's RR-powered 777-200ER fleet and there are currently no plans to refit these aircraft with new Recaro seats or Thales IFE.
The pre-refit GE-powered aircraft IFE, also know as the GMIS system, is the old on-loop film and tv selection. The programs will rewind and start again once the longest film finishes. There is now less of a chance of getting onboard one of these aircraft with only only 4 remaining by the end of this month.
The 787's are planned to replace some of the older 767 aircraft used on mid / long haul routes to begin with.
Hope this helps!?

-Blimey...all I want to do when I fly is look out of the window.
It would be great if they go ris of all that expensive equipement plus the fancy seats etc and reduced the seat pice.

-After a few hours on a transatlantic crossing, looking out of the window gets tedious at best. Besides, you are asked to close you blind at some point so that the cabin lighting can be dimmed and simulate night time in order to help you combat jet lag.

-Agreed on the boredom of a transatlantic crossing, but at least it doesn't take that long to go to America. Try the LAX-AKL or DXB (Dubai?)-SYD sectors for true, unremitting tedium. On those flights, a decent entertainment system is a must, though I still tend to read my own book when flying.
If I do get on one of those rubbishy old B777-200s that BA flies, do they fly to SIN? If so, the low-grade entertainment system won't matter, because flying over the Middle and Far East at night is something else - the light patterns on the ground in Afghanistan and Pakistan are fascinating.
Are those places elaborate mosques? They seem to be in the middle of nowhere and suddenly, they are directly below you.

-Boring transatlantic?:D Met a girl last month flying home to Jo'burg from Atlanta, seventeen hours non-stop, must be almost 90% over water! ;)
This was the route where one of the planes dropped into Ascension with one engine out recently. :diablo:

Perhaps someone could correct me if I'm wrong, but I'd have thought the 9 non-AVOD aircraft will be positioned at LGW for the Caribbean sectors? I doubt a premium market like SIN would be without AVOD.

-Matt, you're probably right, though I couldn't believe the state of the BA B777that flew from Boston to LHR last year - it must have been one of the old ones.
I couldn't help noticing while waiting at DXB for a connetion, that Emirates uses all its least desirable aircraft (A340-300s) for the African rioutes that carry mainly migrant workers back and forth.
Not for them the glittering A380s.

Just a quick question, are ALL BA777's being fitted with AVOD?
