For anybody interested or that may be planning a visit to Dublin. Sunday 15th Sept. would be a good time to come. The Irish Aviation Authority have planned an event called "Flightfest" which will involve the fly past of 30 plus aircraft up the River Liffey to the City Centre. The aircraft will be between 800-1700 ft during the display which will include 2 passes of the flight. The Airbus family will be represented by A320 Aer Lingus ( retro)
A300 Air Contractors, A330 Aer Lingus. A340 Etihad, A380 British Airways. City Jet RJ85 in Leinster Rugby colours, Ryanair B737, Air Contractors C130 and ATR72, Aer Arann ATR72, Aer Lingus DH84 Dragon, Irish Coast Guard Sikorsky S92 & S61, In addition on the military side B17 (Sally B), Catalina,Hunter,F86, BAC Strikemaster, RAF C-130, The Irish Air Corps will be sending a CASA, 3 AW139s, 4 Pilatus PC9s and 2 Cessna 172s and finally THE VULCAN !!!!!! Details can be found on www.flightfest.ie It has the makings of a great day and it is free, it can be watched from a huge area of the city, along the quays and the coastline of the bay. I am uncertain if this should be posted in Military and Historic as well, but felt I would start here.

Not sure how often Etihad operate an A340 into Manchester, if it is of interest the A340 coming to "Flightfest" on 15th Sept will be operating the normal A330 service into Manchester that day.

Thinking of hopping over for this.... anyone know of a decent vantage point (North facing) for shooting this?

Planning on going to the vicinity of Pigeon House Road - just east of the East Link Bridge (20-30 mins walk from the city centre)

It's roughly north-facing, the river is slightly wider here and (depending upon the altitude of the planes) you might get some nice shots with big liners/ferries/docks in the foreground.

The Quays nearer town will probably be mobbed if it's a nice day. Just look up Pigeon House Road on Google maps - there's a strip of grass, then a road, then a pavement that front onto the river - granted it's a busy road but all the quays are busy. You might get a bit of elbow room there (or maybe everyone will have had the same idea!!).

If you wanted to go a bit further east you could try South Wall (the south harbour wall of Dublin port) it juts out into the bay so unrestricted views eastward (Irish Sea) and Northward (towards Howth).

I'll bring my camera but I'm no Charles E. Brown so I'm just hoping for good weather and a decent look at the Vulcan, Fort & 380 - it's been decades since I saw the first two and I've never seen a 380 in the air.

Hi Tartan Pics
The South Quays will be open to the public, however you will be underneath them there, there is a location at Grand Canal Basin, a little back from the river. if you look on google earth, however there is another event ( speed boating ) on there so it maybe crowded. The Great South Wall would be a good location as they will be coming in off the bay and turning and descending east of the "chimneys" ( power station ) which are at the west end of the Great South Wall. I am going to be in the Port area as I am with the Emergency services. If I can help anymore, let me know here or PM me.
