-Here's the latest news from Duxford, concerning the appearance of the ARCo Spitfire Tr.9 G-CCCA (PV202) at the forthcoming Bahrain Airshow:
http://www.gulfweeklyworldwide.com/articles.aspx?articleid=31525
It appears that 'QV-I' was repainted as W3632 ( A presentation Spitfire named 'Bahrain' and flown by the remarkable David Scott-Malden ) before leaving Duxford by container in late November.

-Hello and Happy New year all... Can't wait to see what DX 2014 brings :)
I'm guessing that PV202 will return ?

-Could be worse - didn't the 1987 storm put the part-completed cladding of the then-Superhangar across the A505?

-re;
I would guess its not the repairs that are the problem its the paperwork held up by Christmas and New Year?

-I doubt you could just pop down to B&Q for a replacement panel - one of the issues with arty designs rather than more conventional hangars is the need to re-fabricate bespoke bits.

-With no movements to report so far this year what with the weather and the current closure of DX a rummage thru the archives came across the attached picture of Sally B in 1975 at Duxford , in a strip of negatives not previously scanned. I am sure some will recollect the occasion !! ( more to follow later on that )

-I am just trying to orientate myself with that picture, given all the houses in the background. There are no such houses to the west
The only sense I can make of it, is if the Fort is sitting on some now grubbed up apron on the south side, ie about the same orientation as this photo.

-Surely it's looking ESE from the northern side towards Duxford village. Taken before the M11 was built and apparently from a raised position?
By: 3rd January 2014 at 20:51 Permalink - Edited 1st January 1970 at 01:00
-Its looking approximately north east, with part of the village of Whittlesford in the background. The ground behind Sally B is rising from right to left away from Duxford village and up towards the A505 (pre M11).
The hills / trees in the far distance are known locally as Wandlebury !

So am I right in supposing that all that hard-standing has gone under the plough, since it isn't there now as far as I can see. This must be pretty near where the Movie 'chateau' was erected.

-Nowhere near where the Chateu was, that was on the southern side. The pan is still exactly where it is in the photo. Remember, no M11, no Superhangar/Airspace/spam tin, No ARC hangar. You could clearly see straight over to Whittlesford.
The topographgy was much flatter then.

To follow up the image of Sally B, the date was the 24th August 1975 that marked he departure of David Tallichets B.24J N94559 from Duxford (en route to USA via Stansted and Prestwick) which resulted in a formation flypast with the BBMF and the Ormond Haydon-Baillie Sea Fury. We covered the event in the Duxford 2013 thread in March last year with a few colour images but the black and white pictures below have just come to light and not been published before so on this rather wet Saturday morning in the Duxford area they may bring some past memories back.
