A UK E-3D Sentry Airborne Warning and Control System (Awacs) jet will fly from RAF Waddington in Lincolnshire.

The aircraft would carry out its mission while staying within Polish and Romanian airspace, the MoD said.

Well... I'm pretty lost for words on this development...

Good PR for the Sentry fleet, I hope the MOD pulls its finger out someday and just put them through Block40/45 like every else is doing with their E3. No messing around putting it out to tender so we end up with an overly unique variant just Block40/45 with UK specific bits and bobs.

One has to ask "Why" are these aircraft going out there ?

I'd rather see 20000 NATO peacekeepers drop into the Ukraine than fake a response.

And average around 5'-4" tall, have no dress sense and come out of a peaceful little town called Hereford... And happen to know how to get in touch with AWACS aircraft...

Indeed! I'd also deploy an RAF Sentinel R1/ASTOR aircraft too.

The US plans to scrap 7 of ours, sounds like they should be swapped for your old ones.

I'm sure the Ukrainians will sleep well knowing they are safe with "monitoring" going on.

Meanwhile in Moscow Putin wets himself laughing.

Are the whole E3 fleet up to block45 in USAF? Isn't the French E3 the most capable beside US E3?

Only one fully retrofit yet. Others to come.

Ok, so would it be right to say those A-50U are more modern/capable as the older Block E3 then?

Hi All,
This request by the Baltic states that we have agreed to while it proves a prudent move to assist the Baltic's request it poses some obvious questions, would I be correct that they would be deployed with a fighter escort and if so which country would supply them ? and would they really protect these E-3's if it came down to it ? their have already been defections in the Ukraine armed forces what if the Baltic states suddenly reverted back to Russian leanings ?
I mean here in terms of not provoking the Russians to go any further than they have done by trundling onwards to the country who provided the escort. I assume the fighter protection would have to be from the Baltic states that have asked for our capability they don't have ? and what would happen if the Ukraine supplied this escort would it be a possible escalation response from Russian forces ? I mean is it possible that this could quite literally lead up to a confrontation if one pilot's itchy trigger finger slips so to speak ?

Well you can be sure those E3 are fencing the borders of Polen/Ukraine in order to get the best coverage inside Ukraine airspace.
So yes it might be that the E-3 are indeed escorted by fighters.
I don't see any NATO units entering inside Ukraine airspace anytime soon if that was Your last question.

Hi All,
I was trying to understand the what if's just suppose for example Ukraine asked for a sentry to patrol in their airspace would they dare do it considering that Ukraine do not have AWACS ?

It would only escalade the current stalemate between Nato and Russia. In other words it will never happend. I have low regards to how Russia has handlet this, but at the same token, western leaders are well aware that they cannot fully embrace the new Ukraine goverment without any election and sofourth and at the same time that they downplay the situation in Crimea.. they are somewhat similar.

I don't see western foreign occupation troops in Kiev.

Nor do I see those foreign occupation troops forcing a vote which does not allow Ukraine to remain intact as a country.

The "election" being forced on Crimea by Russia and PART of the the Crimean government has only two choices:
1. revert to the 1992 constitution which proclaims Crimea as an independent nation, NOT as part of Ukraine.
2. Become part of Russia.

There is NO choice that says "remain part of Ukraine".

So the situations are completely different.

Again, the citizens of Crimea are not being allowed to choose to remain part of Ukraine!

Well true, but neighter do you see Russian troops in Kiev.. its Crimea we are talking about, and its a different historical drama With Crimea as i'm sure you know.

And Russia had offeret Western observers in the Crimea Elections of soverity question.
Now i'm sure there are People in Crimea whom would rather stay With Ukraine, this is a no brainer..

But can you claim that there is no Majority of the Krimea population that wishes to go With Russia?
I Guess this is the real question!

And why Western leaders have a certain explenation issues when it comes to negotiations With Russia.

They are. stop ******* lying. The two choices are : either leaving Ukraine and join Russia, or Return to 1992 constitution - in other words stray with Ukraine but have self-regulation like it was agreed but erroded by west Ukrainians throughout the years.
