-I think this is a short excerpt from a longer video that has been on the net for the last week or two, showing ground attack runs by Mig 29 and Mig 23 from the target on the ground.
I watched it a while back, but I think this is from the same video.

It looks convincing but this is what makes me unsure:
1. Shouldn't the Mig-29 fly faster? This beeing a warzone, shouldn't the pilot fly faster for better survivability vs whatever AAA would be present? -> Filmed @ when not making a strafing run.
2. Shouldn't the center of the flash be centered around the gun port, which is pretty much aligned to the wing?
3. Shouldn't the flash geometry be differently shaped than circular? Given the proximity to the fuselage/nose.
4. The gun flash (coloring and light) looks fabricated to me. Am I wrong? :S
The gun blast/flashs geomentry doesn't look like what I presumed it would look like. Granted I realy dont know how it should look like in reality. But given the gun port location and proximity to the fuselage/nose I predjudisticaly presumed it would NOT be circular.

-1- It depends; flying too fast means too little time for correctly eyeballing targets and maneuvering to attack them. MiG-29 is already fast, it doesnt deploy LE flaps or anything.
2 and 4- It possibly due to camera and cameramen, which unfortunately uses high shutter times and small diapragm opening and/or small CCD (likely to be a cell phone). As gun blast happens very fast, gun flash images can blend with clean MiG-29 images. Looking frame by frame, it does originate from correct place, but as camera shakes and flash is a too bright light source, it kinda shakes around. This kind of compositing on AE is very difficult to achieve.
3- Maybe, maybe not due to gas expansion occurs too slow relative to aircraft's speed, and circular looking muzzle flash can form in front of the aircraft. IDK about that.
However, what suprises me is that it actually sounds right. Gun fires without sound, then explosions then the sound of the Gsh-301 firing. Happens due to supersonic muzzle velocity. I don't think any uneducated syrian rebel would think about this while faking a video.

-It feels like muzzle flash is artificial but the rest is real (sound etc)

-Here is a video to compare it too. MiG-29 Strafing run at 0:20
I've heard people say that the reason the muzzle flush looks a bit off is because the footage has been stabilised using software. Giving it a weird effect

Thanks for the link. Looking at that muzzle flash it sure explains how it could be percived as offplaced. 1 mystery cleared :)

-Hi All,
I must say that when I first watched on Youtube there was little doubt in my mind, but having viewed it a few times I think it's real, I think what a lot of people forget when you observe the muzzle flash you view not as it happens but seconds after, that plus the aircraft is coming directly at the camera alters the prospective when viewed and this would explain why the muzzle flash seems higher than you would expect.(If my theory is wrong please correct)
Not being an expert in this filed the above description is all I can think of, just like an aircraft flying past you hear the noise of where it was not where it is I suppose it's the same with any thing to the matter, what struck me was the balls of the cameraman and the accuracy of the pilot spot as far as I can tell.:D

-I'm not familiar With the Russian 30mm gun and its ammo types.. are they using some kind of "multipurpose" rounds?

-Based on my extensive personal experience of being strafed by MiG-29s, I conclude that this footage is indeed real.

-Hi All! You should believe the video is truly real ;) Plz have a glance at the post here:
http://luftwaffeas.blogspot.com/2014/04/syaaf-mig-29-in-action.html
@Wilhelm: The SyAAF MiG-29 appeared twice in March: once when it attacked rebels together with MiG-23's on 20th in the famous raids over the overrun depots 559, the second time was on 24th over Rhaibeh (a matter of 20km to the north of Damascus), the latter is the one which was recorded attacking the cameraman.
