Ooh, that's better. Now I can post my appreciation of those marvellous D-Day Remembrance pictures. The quality of this thread never disappoints.

Normal service is resumed!

A thundery and showery morning put a lot of people off, but it gradually cleared and the Hurricane departed for a display at Folkestone.

The Hurricane was out again on Sunday, displaying at Folkestone before landing away at Headcorn. The main runway was closed for most of the day for a drag racing event. The short runway, 12, was in use. When the Hurricane returned we had created a displaced threshold on the main runway, 20, with Ops vehicles so had a landing over the top of us. The Herts Air Ambulance was close behind…

At the end of the day we also had a flypast by the RAF Memorial Flight Dakota.

Is anything happening with those c54s?

Yes. It is called corrosion. :(

I believe one changed hands recently, but I doubt that either will ever fly again or that there is enough interest in the type for a museum to take one on and fund the cost of transportation and upkeep. I suspect they'll eventually go the same way as the Boxcar did.

I thought the Boxcar was flown out and had trouble leaving ground effect !!!!

On Wednesday we had a couple of regular visitors. First in was the Boeing Stearman from Napps Field. It returned again later.

On Friday the Airfield was preparing for the Air Britain Fly-in over the weekend and a Hangar Dance at Hangar 6. The C54 has been moved to provide a backdrop.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v165/YakRider/C54-1000_zpsd22da6de.jpg

The Bremont Broussard was outside in the sun as well.

One of the arrivals for the Fly-in was an Aeronca L-3 Grasshopper.

The Mustang was also out on a short air test. It will be displaying at Biggin Hill today (Saturday). It used the grass runway, which has dried out nicely after the recent rain.

YR,
A brilliant update as per usual from your good self.
I note Hangar 11 aircraft will be very busy this weekend, Biggin with P40 and P51 Saturday and the Spitfire and Hurricane being the first aircraft since the 1920s to land at Hylands Park House Chelmsford on Sunday for the Big Boys Toys show. I do hope the wind is good for that landing.

I thought the Boxcar was flown out and had trouble leaving ground effect !!!!

There were two of them the white one did indeed fly out with some trouble the silver one was cut up after a certain one eyed Scottish chap got his hands on it and it was left without control locks in a big storm and badly damaged

Air Britain Fly-in Saturday

Just a selection from the first day of the Air Britain Fly-in. We start off with some classic British types…

Derek Sharp's immaculately restored Bulldog

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v165/YakRider/Bulldog-1000_zpscbb56c90.jpg

Miles and Auster amalgamated to form Beagle, which designed the Bulldog, so next is Peter Holloway's Miles Falcon

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v165/YakRider/MilesFalcon-1000_zps5523234c.jpg

And a visiting Messenger

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v165/YakRider/MilesMessenger-1000_zps149f6ee9.jpg

One of the featured types were de Havilland cabin aircraft, and two Hornet Moths were in attendance

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v165/YakRider/HornetMoth2-1000_zps17cc1a67.jpg

Also Dragon Rapides. The Duxford example turned up along with the Aer Lingus Dragon 'Iolar'
