L-159 is completely different aircraft from Albatros...

Completely?
Maybe it's the time for another popular fairy tale "L-159 is variant of L-39" style: ČZ vz.58 IS a kalashnikov...

-M-345 and L-39NG are in the same weight class.
L-159A competes against Hawk trainers and somewhat against M-346.

Well at least the vz58 and the AK had completely different operating principles.
The L-159 is essentially an L-39 airframe with local reinforcement. Same aerodynamics, even the same wing profile: NACA 64A012.5. Aero even stated that this was how it evolved.
Some nice avionics and a more powerful engine.
Over to you for the full explanation of how this is completely different from the 1968 original other than in the marketeer's imagination.
Edit: I omitted to mention the 'completely redesigned nose' and the change to B-type ejection seats...

"essencially" and "with local reinforcement" - excelent!
I can say vz.58 IS kalašnikov, proudly, I know it... :highly_amused: because it looks like kalašnikov, like L-159 airframe and wing are as same as with L-39 because looks like....
Seriously, already looong time these fairly tales dont attract me, the end

The ALCA with its straight wings is at a disadvantage compared to all other LIFTs. But it is fully mission capable, it's called ALCA for a reason. Market outlook isn't bright for that class of aircraft though so it might make sense to offer a new medium level trainer. If it weren't for those turboprop trainers everyone is buying... the M-345 hasn't seen much success as well. Singapore f.e. replaced its S-211 trainers with the PC-21.

I own a vz.58, the amount of times I have to explain at the shooting range that it isn't an AK....if I had a penny each time!

-Let me point attention how its exactly the emergence of a new generation of hih performance planes like Yak-130/M-346 or Fai T-50 that have opened a space for the revamping of such a class of light jet trainers like M-345 and L-39NG..
While there is a need of planes with swept wings, high angle of attack and high load turning in order to replicate performance of 4,5gen and 5gen planes their far greater cost , both in acquisition and for flight/hour made it impossible to use them in order to cover all the basic and advanced trainer part previously covered by straight wing heavy trainer like Hawk and MB-339.
Now until such planes would still work they will be kept anyway but for the future (or in case of my own country the present) there will be a great convenience into purchase a smaller and cheaper but still with good overall performance jet trainer in order to spare money in the basic and first leg of advanced training phase passing to the most capable one only when it would really be needed.

-What, no hot girls at the rollout? :very_drunk:
New canopy makes L-39NG look somewhat different. Reshaped nose?
straight wing heavy trainer like Hawk
The Hawk has swept wings and is supersonic in a dive.
