There are some prats out there...

(Sorry - Daily Mail story)

Let us be! Abbey Road live cam shows a man in a submarine suit and real penguins as fans hold up furious drivers while recreating The Beatles' famous album cover
Famous studio's camera shows 24/7 footage of the iconic crossing
It has filmed a man in a yellow submarine outfit and real penguins
Traffic is repeatedly stopped and horns are audible throughout the day

Arms swinging, legs scissoring back-and-forth, a smile and wave to someone nearby with a camera and not a care in the world.
You wouldn't think these people are playing in traffic, but that's exactly what happens day-in-day-out at the infamous Abbey Road crossing in St John's Wood in London.
Fans and opportunists alike have been recreating The Beatles iconic Abbey Road album cover at the spot it was shot since it was released in 1969.

But now the Abbey Road studio, where John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison and Ringo Starr originally recorded the album, has set up a 24-hour live camera feed with no other motive, seemingly, other than letting you watch the lunacy of copycat Beatles fans unfold in front of you.
Listening to the audio you can hear the honks of irate drivers on their commute to work as an endless stream of men, women and children pose for photographs on the now Grade II listed site...

It's true - idiots. I opened the webcam and at that moment there were actually four men stood on the crossing as if they were the Beatles whilst another photographed them! As I type this there are horns honking as people take their lives in their hands against the London traffic whilst slowly crossing the road with a friend photographing them...Lunacy.

It’s a well-known ‘tourist attraction’ in that part of London and I think that the studio encourages use of the webcam by allowing people to post their crossing picture from the webcam onto social media.

I suppose most of us have indulged in some pretty prattish behaviour at one time or another - in many cases long before the words social and media were ever used together! Social media highlights and exacerbates so much of modern life that we should hardly be surprised by this.

Charlie,

That seems great fun ! Where and what is 'Abbey Road'? It is obviously code for a popular event.

You've got to expect people doing foolish things at the location of a famous photo.

I pity the authorities who have to put up with silly (my term for harmless good natured nonsense) stuff all day. I suspect we've all done something similar, reenacting a photo or film scene.
I'll even admit to it...as recently as a month ago in a national monument. :)
In a world where thugs cut the heads off soldiers, bomb innocents, steal brass memorial plaques and do senseless vandalism, this is nothing to worry about...as long as they don't get hit by a lorry.

Hi All,
It's a bit of fun for crying out loud get a life! Just witnessed a woman who is heavily pregnant take her life in her hands crossing the Rd literally feet from the crossing diagonally towards the camera dodging the traffic ? now that is what I call an idiot! Must admit though you obviously take your life in your own hands at the crossing also saw a Mercedes speeding suddenly brake as someone stepped off the Kerb so idiots everywhere I suppose. :stupid:

While I suspect having tourists using the crossing for their own selfi(e)sh moments can be annoying, watching the live cam it's amazing how many drivers fail to abide by the rules for zebra crossings...

HI All,
BoB, Your spot on matey I would say the vast majority of drivers pass their test than just drive how they want and to hell with anyone else.
