-Assuming the widely reported massacre is confirmed I am waiting for the deluge of statements from Muslims globally denouncing the savage act of barbaric murder...........

-Yet again, the barbaric and cowardly acts of a few nutters/extremists will result in the remaining (and peaceful) 99.999% of their religion being viewed with suspiscion, fear, or even (unjustified) hatred, by many other people.
Thinks: If the extremists truly think their cause is just, then why are they ashamed to show their faces while committing the act? You would think their religious zeal would make them proud of their work in attacking the 'infidels', and thus happy to show their faces whilst engaged in their acts...
Lets hope the cowards are swiftly caught and brought to book.
Sincere condolences to those who have lost friends and loved ones in the attack.

-I reiterate as above - let's hear from some of the 99.999%.

-Hopefully the French will deal with this accordingly. Treading tired ground here, but if you don't like a country's attitude towards free speech then leave that country. This is common sense.

Hopefully the 99.999% mentioned by Charliehunt will deal with this.

-JB,
I won't be holding my breath on that one.
There is no answer to this particular problem or, at least, one that will carry the support of the majority.
I mentioned this a year ago. Islam is on the march. Europe now has a population of between fifteen and twenty million Moslems.

I imagine they won't. Besides, for all of the 99% peaceful majority bull****, I wager a good few of them will be able to point you in the direction of the radicals. I'm sure a few impressionable teenage muslims have been approached by radicalised individuals sitting within the congregation of bigger mosques and simply turned down their offer. There is no chance that there is zero overlap between the peaceful majority and the radical faction.

-Alan let it and Germany as well which is swinging to the right give those who don't come out of their cosy little world of putting their heads in the sand a right kicking. If you live in that country you should pledge allegiance to that country or Foxtrot Oscar back to the sandpit of your forefathers.
Yes I am effing angry about those who have lost loved ones today and may those who valued free speech Rest in peace

A message to the gunmen in Paris.
You are probably congratulating yourselves on a successful attack today as you try to flee from justice. You probably think you are heroes, but you are not. You probably do not think you are terrorists, and I agree, you are not. You are simply murderers, nothing more. What you and your extremists friends don't understand is that your attacks do not terrorise us. They have never terrorised us. They do not change us. And they cannot break our resolve. So yes, we may have a few more police patrols, or a few more barriers, but that is all you will ever achieve.
You cannot beat us because you are on the wrong side of history like so many deluded people before you. We stand for freedom, openness, tolerance and liberty, while you only stand for hatred, intolerance and division. So we will mourn the tragic deaths of innocent people, as we have mourned the thousands that have been killed before whether in New York, London or Madrid. And when we have finished mourning, you will go back to being a tiny speck on the dark side of history, whose names no-one will remember and we will move on and thrive and continue to promote the very same freedoms your purport to hate. So whatever your future holds, just remember that your actions today achieved nothing today because our liberty, our free speech and our beliefs have always, and will always, defeat you.

-The way I see it 12 heroes for Freedom of Speech were killed by 3 twisted cowards who represent nothing but a deluded ideology, its not religion its a sickness in the mind and a weakness in the soul.
Every innocent person killed by these twisted so called terrorist groups is a hero for peace, freedom and humanity, they will not be forgotten.

-There is no real freedom of speech in France. Yes on a personal level you can say pretty much whatever you want, but in the media if you say something that goes against the ideology then you're out.
Charlie hebdo "journalists" were doing their part in the system's propaganda, they were libertarian (morally not economically) ideologists of the extremist kind, and don't worry they didn't give a rat's ass about the freedom of expressions of other thought currents. BTW the "journal was bankrupt" and wasn't closed already only because a fire in their locals allowed them to get insurance & some support.
Now I really feel bad for the cops who were shot down. That is the real tragedy, but charlie hebdo can blow me.
BTW real fundamentalists would have burnt the "offending drawings" before shooting the perpetrators. They're supposed to destroy the object of the insult, which is their most important task.
Those killers' most important task seem to have been to create a trauma in the french people, & create a divide between french muslims & white people, which they achieved by shooting a cop dead in front of a camera.

I am bothered by any kind of murder. But I can't stand everyone equating charlie hebdo to freedom of speech. They're the scum of journalism.

A lunchtime BBC news report confirms that 12 people including 2 police officers have been shot dead during an attack by alleged Islamic terrorists. Many more are seriously injured.
The report says that two men walked into the offices of a Paris satirical magazine known to print articles and cartoons about Islam. The men produced automatic rifles and singling out four employees shot them dead while chanting 'Allah Akhbar'.
Further shootings including the two policement followed. The gunmen escaped into the city.
