Is this a step too far or have we got there already?

My worry is that the Police Federation have often been found wanting on accuracy, political interference, possible corruption and EU style of financial accountancy.
Why should we believe what they profess when ‘cry wolf’ seems to be their perennial motto.

What terrorist attack whould have be thwarted by use of a Taser?

Heavily armed and suicidal terrorists versus a taser?. Not even a relevant question!

Best laugh I have had for ages...:D. Living next door to my local Nick, there are at least 6 or 7 Police Cars parked on their frontage. They hardly ever seem to move. Their excuse being, "We have too much paperwork that keeps us in". It looks good, when you are told they are being issued with Tazers, but first, they have to get out of their cozy Police Stations to use them. Todays Police Force is a joke, just ask yourself, when did you last see a Copper WALKING around his Beat?.
Things just aint what they used to be.

I live in South East London. We see police on foot (in pairs), on horseback, on push bikes, on those three wheeled scooter things, in cars marked and unmarked, vans, minibuses, coaches, armoured things and helicopters. They range from coppers with pointy helmets to the full paramilitary rig with assault rifles. And the last were walking the street.

I wouldn't arm them with a pea shooter.

It's good to know the Met get them out!! Around here it's variable - certainly much more in evidence in the summer than the winter - perhaps they don't like the cold weather!!

You're lucky, around here about the only time they are seen on foot is when they're investigating burglaries etc. 90% of patrolling seems to be in cars.

Mike, Once upon a time, when some unfortunate family who came home to find they had been burgled, phoned 999, and the same day, (Very soon after phoning) The S.O.C.O. would attend, various items dusted for prints etc.
Today, all you get apparently is a Crime Reference Number, should you be claiming on your Home Insurance.

As for the Met, well, don't get me started on that lot.

As well as lots of Police we have the largest Police Station in Europe.

Recently a shop was under attack, sort of mini riot, and the shop front was being pushed in.

Guess what. The largest Police station in Europe was about 100 yards away but couldn't produce a policeman, we had to dial 999.
