The 'Have I Got News For You' team famously replaced absent panelist Roy Hattersley with a tub of lard. If David Cameron does not appear in any of the proposed TV Election debates, what artefact would you suggest be placed on the empty podium ?

Cardboard cutout - Millipede would still lose the argument and stand there looking gormless (Rabbit in the headlights) ; )

It's about time we stopped kidding ourselves it's a presidential election. It's not - we are electing a party to govern not an individual. And if I hear "empty chair" used as a verb one more time I won't be responsible for my actions towards the media!!.............

Totally agree with Cameroon's stance, it's either all or none at the debates, the trouble is no one will nail down the defence budget, and that is the Primary and I mean Primary responsibility of Government, the defence of the Realm.

OK, I've got my tin hat ready, but I think Cameron's running scared, spitting his dummy just because others don't wish to play by his rules, first sign of a bully.

I think it is a mistake for Cameron not to show for any TV debate that is scheduled: it does look like he is scared to debate or has something to hide (at least it will be interpreted that way)...

...however, it's not a gig that I would want!

Every other leader is going to try to convince the viewers that they could have, and will, do a better job of running the country; they've just got sound convincing whereas Cameron has an actual record to defend (and nobody likes the government). It'll also be six-to-one; not the best circumstances to defend your record!

Considering that on this forum, Miiliband has a rating lower than Useless Eustace yet Cameron will not under any circumstances countenance a one to one public debate with him, surely if Milliband is as hopeless as the Southern County types seem to think, then Cameron should relish the opportunity, seems strangely reluctant, can't think why.

Perhaps he doesn't want to risk getting poked in the eye with that agitated forefinger.

As I said, because he's the only one that has to defend what he actually did...

...rather than the 'opposition' that only has to convince us that that they could, and will, do better.

There are way to many permutations, of what could happen.
In terms of a defence budget the scariest could be ...A Minority Labour Government with 40+ SNP MPs, to get most things through then having to concede something to the SNPs anti-nuclear stance.

And what was Ed Balls headline contribution to the election debate yesterday? Scaremongering about the NHS and how big he thought that the Conservative 'cuts' are going to be...

...not saying how big the Labour 'cuts' are going to be mind, because there will be 'cuts', either that or more unaffordable spending (and by that we mean borrowing), no, just guessing and scaremongering.

The truth is I'd love more spending on the NHS, education, training, law and order, infrastructure and especially defence; the problem is not what we want, the problem is (and has always been) paying for it!

I'd like to have heard what Ed Balls was going to do differently from the Conservatives to pay for all that 'betterness' that Labour is promising; the fact that he didn't speaks volumes!

A man whose credentials to manage our fiscal affairs look weak historically and even weaker every time he opens his mouth.

Cameron could be replaced by a slimy toad, but there is always a risk that such a comparison would upset the RSPCA.

If it upsets the RSPCA then it's worth doing!!;)
