-I loved the Airport movies as a kid.
I remember seeing Airport 75 and on the way home went past Gatwick were i saw what i was convinced was the tail of the star aircraft a 747 in the movies livery. Turned out to be a Maersk Air 707.Same colours!
Airport based on Arthur Haileys book [which i also read] and starring Dean Martin. Not the film Airplane was based on that was Zero Hour almost scene by scene, which makes that film hilarious to watch.
The aforementioned Airport 75. Beechcraft meets 747 cockpit with tragic facial expressions for Karen Black.
Airport 77 way cool landing Jimmy Stewart's corporate 747 underwater.
Though i thought Airport 79 was naff.

-One of the the original films was 'The High and the Mighty' (based on the excellent Ernie Gann book) - this film was so bad in places it was unintentionally funny - the cockpit/flying scenes were fine but back in the cabin it was baaaaad LOL.
Once one has watched this film one can see where 'Airplane' was coming from : )

-Are these a healthy phenomenon ?Airport -79.
You're taking them a bit too seriously.
Or do you prefer the light hearted war films?...The Dam Busters, A Bridge Too Far, Tora Tora Tora.... etc. After all, no one gets hurt in those. :) :)
Don't forget Zero Hour...the non-comic (at least not intentionally funny) version of Airplane!

-I find stuff like this slightly amusing..............american takes on a situation using the subject as a vehicle for the acting "ability" of the "star" performers.
I just wish that we were able somehow to say things like..............
Pause the tape there....as that would never happen in a real world situation.
I have only watched a bit of i so far, and it is so appalling I must watch more !
There was a bit when conc was on short finals..........why is it doing split arsed turns on finals ?
All of a sudden there's a balloon at 50 ft half way down the runway ??
Where ATC asleep ?...did nobody notice the balloon drifting into the most busy runway in the south of england or wherever ??
Can't wait for more american garbage.
This is a rant against being fed films like against this purporting to be "real world" and NOT to be a criticism of American film making.

-I think Airport 79 was purporting to be a fictionalized account of what could happen in the films story, not so called 'real world'.
It was meant to be nothing more than what it is mindless entertainment to make some dollars. IMHO

-Surely the mistake is to take ANY of these films seriously!! They are entertainment, no more no less.
