So, at PAS2015 what can we expect?

The narrowbody backlogs are built up to a point where you'd think no more big orders are possible, the industry is currently pondering whether its in an order bubble and fuel prices are recessed. You'd imagine that would mean there is little appetite for new orders so the airshow could be quiet.

Well, a few things stick out.

- Emirates are currently weighing up a sizeable B787-10 or A350-900 order; will they decide in Le Bourget?
- Noises coming out about a possible deal to sell the A330 regional into China (that is the A330ceo)
- All the talk a few weeks back was of the seemingly inevitable launch of A380neo in Paris. This talk has cooled, significantly. Will there be any A380ceo orders to have resulted in this cooling? United? Turkish?
- Boeing are talking about the Middle Of Market (MOM) aircraft, a replacement for the 757 - surely too soon for a launch in Paris?
- Boeing have a production gap between the 777classic and 777X. Plugging this hole the "order" of the day?
- Mitsubishi are about to start test flying the MRJ, any more orders to the backlog?
- Bombardier are taking the CS100 and CS300 to their show debuts; and also unveiling supposedly 10-15% of performance improvement from the brochure statements. Will this result in orders? What about ilyushin finance's order, is it safe? Air Canada got rid of its Ejets this week - going to Delta, room for a few CS100?
- Bombardier have also started the whispers on a possible CS500. But they are currently financially and resource stretched - could they launch the CS500 (which IMO is inevitable at some point) at PAS2015?
- The preliminary agreement between Delta and its Pilots makes no room for the Embraer 175E2, how will the Brazilian airframer respond to the potential of the 175E2 being outside of scope for all US operators? Will there be many more orders added to the rest of the E2 backlog?
- The rumour mill had the CFM Leap in all sorts of trouble a month or two back, will there be an update from Airbus/CFM on A320neo testing to allay fears?
- The P&W GTF in the A320neo hit problems a couple of weeks back, is the program still on schedule? Are the problems related to that which grounded the C Series [note change in name from CSeries] for months last year? Will they impact the C Series? How is performance shaping up?

I'm sure there is a rake more going on that I've forgotten or don't know about...

Wow... well, the civil forum is going places!

[I guess if it doesn't have missiles hanging off it, our pubescent forumers aren't interested :highly_amused: ]

Anyhoo. For those that care:

- Nothing yet from Emirates.
- A330 regional sale to Saudi Air. 4 more 330ceo to Eva Air.
- No A380 neo, now talk of a stretch + re-engine. I suspect they'll add moveable wingtips/winglets to push up the aspect ratio at the same time.
- No MoM launch.
- 11 777 classics sold
- No MRJ orders
- No CSeries orders (or cancellations from Ilyushin), improved performance as specified, with another ~5% in the works for 2018.
- No CS500 launch.
- Embraer selling 190E2 and 195E2, but no 175E2. Have sold a number of 175 classic.
- Boeing says Leap on target
- Nothing on any schedule changes on A320neo (GTF)

Star of the show to date is probably ATR to be honest.

Very comprehensive and interesting post. Just because people don't have anything to add, it doesn't mean the thread is not being read. Thanks for posting.

Did'nt China order 50 Twin Otters from Viking Air based in Calgary?

There was some speculation in the financial press (a sadly overlooked resource for aviation news) that Boeing might re-introduce the 757 rather than an all-new replacement.
They made cases both ways.

That would be cool. I have always seen it as an elegant design.

I agree, I've always like the design, but have only flown on one a couple of times. A new version with the latest engines would be great.
I was disappointed when they quit making hem, but wonder why they'd want to reintroduce it now. What can it do that stretched 737s can't?

I have to admit, for the life of me I cannot see the 757 returning in any way shape or form. I'm somewhat surprised that a journalist with more than a passing interest in the field wrote that up! Unless they were desperate to fill a few column inches and liked the idea so decided to pass the time going over it in their head... :highly_amused:

Supposedly it was quite expensive to manufacture, and it would need essentially a complete re-design anyway to be competitive with what is out there now (in all but its long-thin route niche where there isn't enough market to justify development spend).

Boeing need to use it as a bridge to the 737 replacement IMO. Common wingbox, common fuselage. Different wings and empennage. Then customers can mix and match capacities and range to suit themselves.

[Dunno about Twin Otter order.]
